There was a house I drove past that had probably around 30 of these giants...

Suillus, Leccinum, or Boletus???

Maybe Boletus barrowsii ?

I don't see any annulus or remains of a partial veil, so that can cross out Suillus, and the stalk looks too smooth for Leccinum.

It's a Leccinum, cut one in half and observe any staining reaction (can be slow, up to an hour) and what kind of trees was it growing under?

They were scattered throughout the property, well spaced out except for those two together in my pics. They were growing in tall grass alongside the road and no trees that I can recall, although my memory may be selective.

So far, after cutting the mushroom in half there's been an odd pink color for the bruising.

The aroma is very pleasant and appeals to me on an edible level.

Are those small dots, then, the scabers?
