perlite question
    #11188579 - 10/05/09 07:16 PM (8 years, 11 months ago)

I am planning to set up a fruiting chamber for my PF cakes with a layer of perlite. I have a really big bag of perlite that I had purchased from a greenhouse over a year ago. Some of the perlite had already been taken from the bag when I had purchased it... and the bag has since been sitting in my shed. I know PF cakes are less prone to contamination when fully colonized...  but I am wondering if I should use this old perlite for my fruiting chamber or purchase some fresh perlite in a sealed bag.

Ive used really old perlite myself. Im sure it will be fine as theres nothing there for bacteria to live off of. Just as long as it was sealed and theres not a bunch of dust and shit in the bag

You could also toss some bleach in the water you're gonna wet it with. Then just let it sit for spell b4 u put the cakes in. The chlorine will dissipate.
