Jars flipped over while PCing * 1
    #11188413 - 10/05/09 07:00 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

My PC can hold 5 jars at one time but today I made 7 jars, so I put 5 first then when I finished I PC my other 2, the thing is with only 2 jars in there it won't fit as tight so 2 of my jars knocked over to the side while PCing, I mean I put it stand upright but during the PC process both of them knocked to the side when I opened the PC, so the water got into the jar which contains dry verm on the top layer, and I guess the substrate probably  burned a little but I'm not sure, but do you think I can still use it?

nope, most likely the substrate is water logged now. just save some grief and redo it sooner rather than later.

I think your water content will be all wrong.. I have a box full of crumpled up foil in different shapes I use for just this situation (fill in the gaps), and use less water.

probably not just b/c of the water. how wet did it get ( a drop / a flood ). if your not short on spores may as well give it a shot. :2cents:

:goodluck:

Yes, I do have the foil wrapped up while PCing, when I remove it I saw the micropore tape is kinda wet, maybe the dry verm isn't even wet eh?

wel.. its possible you are fine then.. but keep in mind wet micro pore tape will now attract and hold contams.. so keep the foil on, until you can be positive at least that is dry.. then inspect.

if you can be sure your verm is dry, you can abandon the tape. otherwise, pat it dry and wipe with alc.

Are you doing PF cakes? I assume so because you are using a verm barrier. Are you using reg mouth half pints or wide mouth? I guess reg cuz it'll be hard to knock wide mouth on their sides. I always handle my PC carefully as to not rattle and break jars, and not knock them over if the PC isn't full. I'd say dump them and redo a fresh batch to ensure success. I've lost a few jars from water getting into them while PCing. They do not do well overhydrated.
