Yea its a nationwide thing. I dont recall anyone doing it when I lived in Europe, but here in the states its common everywhere. I do get a bit of satisfaction evertime i get the chance to warn someone of a speedtrap. Whats even better is the cops in my town have given up on roadblocks because everyone texts everyone else when they see one. the cops used to do it in my neighborhood, and I go out and laugh as they sat there for hours with nobody passing through. It also seemed like a terrible waste of patrolling power to have 15 or so squad cars just sitting and waiting for some unsuspecting drunk driver to come by.

Here in Ireland it's fairly common.
If someone flashes you at night time it's either your lights are off or it's the shades.

I'm in east coast Canada and I've had people flash lights at me a few times, once or twice it really saved my ass to. Although I don't usually drive extremely fast anyways.
I always warn people by flashing my lights as well.

I'm from europe,one of the stranger places in europe actually and people do it all the time here,cops don't really mind it if they're not out hunting for fines and they actually see it as a good thing,because it slows people down on the more dangerous parts of the road and thus prevents accidents.

It has saved my ass more than once here in AUS.
Naturally I always do it myself these days..
Mostly other tuners that do it though

Yup. We do it in Louisiana too. One of my friends does it religiously. He has been pulled over by the cops in his own neighborhood because of it too.
Pig, "Why do you do that with your lights after you pass?"
Friend, "What are you talking about?"
Cop, "I know you turned on your headlights when you passed, I saw the light flash against the car in front of you."
Friend, "Maybe I just wanted to warn them to slow down because they need to be more careful driving on this road... Besides you never know if there is some creep hiding on the side of the road waiting to hurt or harass them. You see that in movies all the time. The people who are supposed to protect us from these monsters are usually sitting in their car sleeping or something on the side of roads like this one......oh wait. "
Cop, "Get out of here before I find a reason to give you a ticket!"

I do that all the time, but I never see anyone else do it? I figured it must be an old fashioned kind of thing that nobody did anymore. It's good to know people are still doing this.

the way we moto riders do it is we tap or touch our helmets, to point out the light bar.
typically we only warn other riders, unless you got a nice ride.

heads up is the general idea though it can mean anything, accident, deer, cop. hazard in the road, check point, lights are off, brights are on or just some zombies ahead

I see it on the highway..usually in the city streets its to let people know to turn of their high beams or to turn on their lights

Up here in Jersey it seems to be common courtesy, especially because we do have a lot of back roads here and cops just jizz their pants at the thought of catching a speeder in camp mode.
