this is going to be my first harvest and i really have no clue how to dry them, first thing that comes to mind is a paper bag and a fan blowing at it, i know dehydrators work great but there expensive, i just want a good way to dry my shroomies without spending money

I dry mine by sandwiching the harvest between two window screens. I set the screens on two chairs and have a fan under them.

If you have large, medium, or even small fruits you can place them on a paper/Styrofoam plate. I normally lay a piece of paper towel over the plate if the fruits are wet.
Placed in a room with a ceiling fan, or a fan pointed in the direction of the plate will dry them at an accelerated rate. Then finish off with a desiccant.

i'm sure this way is not near efficient enough, but it will have to do, just hopefully it dries them thorough, when there dry they basically will break right in half wothout bending? like some kind you just grew when bending the stem, lol

Put shrooms on paper towels. Put fan next to paper towels, turn on medium.

Man, turn that fan up as high as it will go, if you don't have a desiccant chamber, you can pop them in the oven at 140f for 30-60 mins to cracker them up after they are mostly dry from the fan.
I like to store mine in a ziplock baggie with some desiccant wrapped up in a coffee filter, keeps them cracker with no potency loss for years.

this also depends on how humid your region is.
if you live in Arizona they should dry just by leaving them alone. if you happen to be in the pacific north west you would probably need a food dehydrator and a vacuum sealer.
i wasnt able to get them cracker dry with a fan. my climate is humid. i use a food dehydrator (for cracker dry) and they still get a little spongy after storing in zip-lock bags.
^^^yeah a desiccant baggie or packet is a good idea.^^^

use a scale to be sure.
usually they dry to 1/10 of the wet weight. sometimes cubes grow really dense so they lose less weight after drying, sometimes they have hollow stems, they look bigger than they actually are, etc.
i cant eyeball weight so i use a scale.

Yeah, a scale will definitely be used for actual measuring when the time comes. I'm just curious as to what a standard, typical eigth looks like with standard, typical mushies just as a reference.

Well, let's see.
You could pick them, and then leave them sitting around for a few days. If you have a fan put it on them. If you have a desiccant (damp-rid type stuff) then maybe put that next to them or under them.
