What to do with these fruits
    #11185471 - 10/05/09 10:05 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

so i had a small caseing or two (one square foot caseings) that got the green molds before they could fruit. i threw them outside and left them under a pile of tree clippings to hold in humidity. now ive gone out and picked what seems like normal fruits.

but since they were co existing on the cake with green mold im kinda paranoid about if i should keep them. im deff not gonna take the chance and eat them if ill get sick. f that!

what other things could i do with them?

Should be safe as long as the fruits aren't moldy or rotting. Wait for another confirmation though.

okay sweet. so when should i have to worry about molds?

the fruits mostly came from the underside where theres no caseing, and the contam is on the topside where the caseing is. my peatmoss got contamed cuz i never knew i had to pasteurize it.

so since the shrooms arent like rolling around in where the green mold is chilling its good? but if the green molds took over everything that shroom could b fucked? i understand the shrooms suck up decomposing matter for there nutrients so they technically cant take any molds up?

but if some how green molds got on the outside/base of the fruitbody then the fruit itself is contamed?

Think of it like you would a piece of cheese or a slice of bread.
Would you cut or break a moldy spot off and eat the rest? Treat your mushrooms the same.

i've heard from more experienced members that if the cake is still healthy enough to produce fruit, then the fruit will be healthy enough to eat.  if the contam has the ability to make you sick, it'll definately hurt the cake way more than you and theres no way it'd be able to fruit. so i think you're good.

i'd eat em

if you're still worried, slice the shrooms open longways and look inside for mold or contams.

You should worry about inhaling molds much more than you need to worry about eating them.

You may not want to eat a shroom with a bacterial contamination, or if the shroom itself has been consumed by mold.

Exactly. The real danger of molds lies within inhaling them. Serious illness and even death can be very likely. Some deceases take over 10years to manifest themselves by which it will be impossible to cure (if even able to pinpoint the cause...)

So be carefull when messing around and kicking up dirt...

i could see that being possible. but couldnt we be possibly inhaleing them 24/7? we all could still b in contact but not-at-such a high rate vs a shroom man

the earths only got a little over 2 years to live anyway... :P

mold spores are everywhere, all different kinds, you never know, and you and i are probably breathing in some now.

its when you inhale a concentrated cloud of harmful mold spores is when you get sick. your body can deal with low level exposure, and we all do this everyday, but if you inhale a large amount of harmful spores....

we try to limit our exposure.
