That's kind of like what I do, except I soak them for 12 hours in the refridgerator. Works great

I'd let it sit for longer than 2 hours, say 24 hours. I dunk cakes in their respective jars with no adverse effects.

yes, a couple hours really isn't long enough for much water to soak in, the minimum effective dunk time is about 6 hours, maximum about 24.
i'd re-do yours then you shod see results in 3-5 days at optimum temp ranges.
