Big problems, No pins, right temps, correct humidiy, waiting long time... Please take a look!
    #11184381 - 10/05/09 02:12 AM (8 years, 14 days ago)

I have a set up going with some cakes. They have been dunked and rolled. Its very hot in my area so I put some frozen bottles of water
two times a day to keep the temp in the fruiting range. The humidity sometimes varies on the gauge but it must be inaccurate becuase the air
is always humid in the country, plus they are in a terririum, and they perlite has an 1cm of water on it. The bruised cakes were started at 30C or 90F in the terririum but the new cakes werent. I am not sure why they are not pinning. Each cake was fully colonized and then some. about 30 days and then birthed. The bruised cakes were birthed on Sept. 17th and the new cakes about 1 week ago Sept. 28th.

sometimes it takes awhile.  Are you fanning at all? Do you have a shotgun FC?  If so, do you have holes on all SIX sides?  what exactly are you humidity and temp readings in your FC?

They are under a window with fresh air pouring on them through the air  holes on rubber maid terririum. Right now the temp has been at 20 C or 70F and 90% humidity.

Is it possible there is a strain that could do better in my climate? I was reading that some people are using a thailand strain. Are these low lying mushrooms that grow in the 30C or 90F weather or some sort of cooler mountian strain?

Try Cambodians, they should work well for you.

And your cakes should fruit, I have seen a cake take three weeks to pin.

Does anyone know anything more that triggers pinning? Or speeds up the process?

A MUSHROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Re: truskool]
    #11218382 - 10/10/09 01:07 AM (8 years, 9 days ago)

Well, after all this, I just dunked and rolled my cake. Put some new ones in the FC. BOOM! I see a mushroom coming out of my worst looking, longest sitting in the chamber cake, its blue, kinda crusty looking. Right from the bottom a shroom is popping out. So happy. Inoculated on Aug. 23rd, birthed on Sept. 14th, first shroom on Oot. 9th.

Just to let all those impatient hard workers like myself that you will
see mushrooms, eventually.
