Ive done a couple searches but not much comes up on the subject...
My buddy has made a couple of shotgun terrariums before with great success in the past but this time when he made one he couldn't get the humidity any higher than 87%. He cant remember what size holes to use this time for some reason and how for apart. This time he used a 5/32 bit every 2 inches or so. What do you guys recommend I tell him to do?

hmm well thats about how I have mine. Do you have holes on all 6 sides? meaning top and bottom. One thing I do is, every day I mist the crap out of it, just to make sure the humidity is all was up.

Calibrate his hygrometer to 98% with a warm damp towel.

They are currently drilled on the 4 walls. Would you recommend putting them on the top and bottom too? I found a couple post using 1/4 inch holes. Any ideas?

1/4" is good. All six sides is good. Watch the videos, do it like that.

the size you originally used is good and so is 1/4. Yeah you need to drill holes on both top and bottom. The holes on the bottom will not make a huge mess with perlite as some may think. But you need the holes on the bottom cuz it help with the Co2 exchange. Basic principle is that air moves from areas of high density to low density. Cold air is denser than warm air. Heat from a light source makes the air on top warmer than the air on bottom. With holes in the bottom, air flow occurs naturally. It doesn't completely take the place of fanning, but reduces the need for it substantially.

Ill have him try it out. He needs to drill holes on two more sides and he should be set. I hope the hole size difference doesn't mess him up...

Just make sure you do rinse the perlite under water real good, that way it will absorb the moisture. As well as misting the FC
