gymnopolis spectibilis,
but i'm no trusted IDer so wait for one..
to my knowledge those are active, but please dont go eating those untill you get them ID'd by a trusted identifier plzz!

might be another species of the gyms thos but yea i'm pretty positive those are gyms.. take a little tiny bit in your mouth and if it tastes bitter like earwax then those are gyms you found..
but be sure to spit out your lil bite after ok?

Bert420,

Thank you for your timely response.
I also think it bares resemblance to Laughing Gym mushroom but it's not quite as tell-tale as Laughing Gym pictures are, so I'm going to wait for a trusted ID'er to check these bad boys out.

Thanks!

i agree, normally gyms have a darker yellowish tent to the gills. Spore print should be a rusty brown if they are gyms, although some look-alikes have identical spore prints including pholiota sp. which in that case microscopy would be needed to check individual spores for certain charectorisitcs. Imo, Honey Mushrooms.

Btw, Gymnopilus spectabilis=Big Laughing Mushroom or Big Laughing Gym.  I agree though that something is off.  In this case, that spore print sure is going to help.  Make sure to print on something that would clearly show any color spore print, even and especially white.

Spore print should help to narrow it down

gills over foil with a cup on top and he should have a print within' an hour or two, Armillaria sp drop ALOT of spores in a short amount of time.

what about his post do you have trouble understanding? Gymnopilus sp have a taste that is usually bitter, some would describe the taste as "like ear-wax" (dont tell me you've never scratched your ear then picked some food from ur teeth and went UNNGGHHHH WTF WAS THAT?)
and tasting a random mushroom is safe, just nibble it, keep it in the front of ur mouth, and spit it out without swallowing it. this is not recommended unless its a specific step in the identification of that mushroom. for instance, the taste characteristic is not important in identifying a Galerina autumnalis or Conocybe filaris

I nibbled a very tiny portion (perhaps to small to really detect taste) but I sensed no bitterness.
First spore print I conducted was on white paper, switched to foil, but I wiped the white paper with my finger and the spores I got on my finger were white. I'm thinking these are Honey Mushrooms too but doing another spore print on foil just in case.

Spore print turned out white, I suppose these are Honey Mushrooms.  They just look somewhat different from the pictures online of Honey Mushrooms though. I suppose they do look similar enough though.

theres many different kinds, their look varies, they can be 2 inches tall or 2ft tall, brown, grey, white, etc
theres few mushrooms that grow on wood, have white veils, and grow in giant clusters like that. infact honeys may be the only ones.
