I went on Reddit the other day for the first and only time because the guitarist from Deerhunter was answering questions.

You should check it out more often. Steve Vai answered some questions a few weeks ago. Yesterday there was a porn star answering questions. There's also a guy that was a contestant on Top Chef (I asked him about cannabudder and what good peanut butter/chocolate recipes he has). There was a Midevil times princess one time, a guy who's blind, a guy who got shot in the head and lived, a guy that lost his virginity to his sister, the guy who started the Church of the Flying Spaghetti monster, and tons of other great ones.
It's the best way to get news. It's all user-reviewed, so the trash gets filtered out. Essentially it's like Digg only a nazi guy doesn't decide what goes on the front page, the people do.

Well I think that the democratic user system is a lot more reliable for good content than one man. That way it's not one person's bias, but the bias of thousands of people.
I know that sounds kind of odd, but broadening the base of opinion on what is and is not good content makes for more interesting and stimulating content and conversations.

Perhaps I don't understand how Digg works, but I thought the articles with the most votes were on the front page, unless you have it to sort by most recent.

That's how reddit.com works, but all content on the front page go through Kevin Rose (the founder of digg.com) and Jay Andelson (the CEO).
This is one example of their system's biases:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digg.com#Criticism
The AACS example is my favorite. The reddit article on wikipedia has no such criticism because it's never deleted anything; when it does, an uproar ensues and the mods get overthrown by the populace mass-upvoting backlash stories en masse. I can only think of that happening once when a guy hacked the Sears website and posted it on reddit; the lawyers of sears told them to shut it down. The users got really angry and posted "fuck sears" all over the front page. It was quite a sight.

To be honest I don't much care since I don't go to either site. Interesting though I suppose.

Yeah Reddit's wicked. I used to be a devout Digg fan but have seen the error of my ways - Reddit FTW.
That said, I am getting a bit tired of pics of dogs etc getting to the front page. Seems to have calmed down a bit lately though.

Enh, reddit frontpage gets gamed as easily as Digg, it's just not quite as bad. The conversation modding system is also terrible, if you are not in agreeance with the status quo your comment hits -20 and is buried within 90 seconds of posting. Which is kind of hilarious, considering it's supposed to be full of intelligent nerds and people with unique perspectives. As far as I'm concerned the recent trend of "AMA" postings have been nothing but incredibly negative and not exactly what the /self subreddit was ever intended for. I read the RSS but I haven't posted there in years.
