High Humidity With Casings

My friend is working on an automated setup, and plans to put casings into it. However he's having a little trouble regulating the humidity. The picture represents a graph of his humidity for about two hours. (measured every minute)



As you can see, the majority of the time the RH is not between 85-92.

The drops in the humidity are caused by fans blowing filtered air into the unit. And there is a humidifier inside the unit humidifying the air constantly. There is also a small inch and a half hole at the base with a computer fan blowing air out.

Does my friend have to tweak the system more to get the RH to stay between 85-92 more? When type of negative affects will he suffer if he leaves the system as it is?

RH isnt that big of a deal with casings. As long as your casing material stays moist you'll be fine and dandy. If you want a more consistent RH, try adding some Perlite in your terrarium, if your setup allows it. What kind of humidifier and fan(s)are you using.. you dont need a storm in there. I light breeze should be sufficient to keep CO2 levels low.

The recirculating fan and the exhaust fan and the humidifier are 24-7 and the Fresh air intake (two strong fans) happen every 30 minutes.

(When the humidifier and not the fresh air is running, it quickly reaches 96-100 RH)

Yes perlite is a pain, it was just a suggestion to make conditions more consistent. But if this is a must for you, lowering the fan speed is one thing to be considered. I dont think it should necessarily be turned on less. Depending on the speed it can be on at all times. Find a speed where you think there is enough air movement to stir up settled CO2. Then from there start playing with duration and frequency of the fan being on.

maybe your setup is too complicated, thats just my stoned opinion... when your going for 'automated' how long can you leave your terrarium unattended?
