Being rich vs having true friends
    #11180704 - 10/04/09 02:14 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Maybe I'm wrong, I probably am, but when I talk to rich kids/adults they don't ever seem to have very close friends. When all I care about is a connection between somebody else, love, because I don't have money to distract me.

I'd love to be wealthy, one day, but every time I start climbing I notice my money getting in the way of me and my human relationships. I know this is my personal problem, but I wonder if these rich people feel the same way? Does it heighten their ego so much, to the feel good high, that it doesn't matter?

I always question myself: which one is right? Feeling fantastic, or feeling.

Being rich would be awesome.

I would share most of it though

Having money allows you to entertain yourself easier.

Flying alone might not be fun, flying alone first class would be better.

Watching tv alone on a 24" CRT might not be fun, but watching tv alone on a 70" 1080p LCD in your home theater would be more acceptable.

Driving alone in your 1989 Toyata Tersel might not be fun, but driving alone in a brand new Ferrari would be a great time.

You get the idea.

Ive noticed from your threads that you tend to have a dualistic outlook of the world.

There is no black and white; there are only varying shades of gray.

There is no "this group" and "that group".
No right, no wrong.

I know that. But the one thing I can't seem to let go is money. It's the hardest yet.

Liberals on average make 6% more per household than conservatives.

Having less money seems to make people want to hold onto it more.

If I have $5 to my name I am much less likely to spend it on a friend than if I have $5000 to my name.

True friends are the ones that will still stick by you when you have nothing to bring to the table.

It's definitely a good idea to make your friends before you make your money...

I've chatted with some rich people, and they really are "feels bad man".

Most of the time, they don't have any real friends, people take advantage of them, so I can see a lot of them as materialistic as a means to acquire pleasure.

It's only a temporary fix, and it doesn't solve the problem.

BUT, you know, I've had some really interesting deep discussions with these 'rich' people.

They are human too.

If I was filthy rich Id dress/act like a filthy bum so no one would bother me.
By doing this Id also weed out the golddiggers.

How did that song that Rainbow Light sang go?
I think that applies to my situation.
Ive got <$100 to my name; but I dont care.
Sure, having a ton of money would be nice but Id spend it on myself and others until I went broke again.

i really dont know what you are getting at.

like the other guy said, you are either rich or you are not.

there are too many variables to say whether having money will mean that you dont have real friends. if i get this job I am interviewing for on monday, i can finally be happy so long as I keep it because it pays bank and I can finally get out of my parents house again.

I can never quite get to where I want to be, but saying not having money is the problem or that having money will change it, isnt the answer.

as much as money is what i need right now, i never need a ton of it or be "rich" i just need a damn job finally. then I need to move the fuck out of here right after i pay off the last of my studen loan and save up enough to move closer to this job if i get it. i want to move to denver anyway.

i actually want to get away from the fakers and schmucks and sweet talkin' people, say fuck it, because thats what its gonna take.

its not the money, its the love and understanding of my father that isnt there, and the only thing money will change is that if i had enough of it i could get out of here because im not like my sisters who daddy will fix everything. hell, my little sister graduated college, aint gonna do shit for a year and a half, and still gets to live in her own place and doesnt pay rent because my father doesnt do anything but abuse me and treat me like crap but allow her to walk all over him and all he can do is bitch. she doesnt appreciate what she has and i would have all the friends she does if i got my own place to live and got to spend all the money i make on whats important. she doesnt even have to worry that her car blew up. daddy will fix it. she does have to pay for it, but hopefully now she appreciates it because i have always had to.

by the way i paid my car off a couple years early. when you have money, pay off debt. then and only then can you survive when the shit hits the fan.
