Is it possible?
    #11180542 - 10/04/09 03:41 PM (8 years, 19 days ago)

Has anyone tried to breed a type of mushroom that is resistant to cold at all?

Couldn't you just do a flush at the lower end of the temp scale required for fruiting, then take the strongest from the flush and clone it or take the spores from it, rinse and repeat.

Or does it just not work that way?

Look at all the happy creatures dancing  on the lawn.

Sending me free spores is welcomed and encouraged.

It will take a lot of work, a lot of generations. But probably possible.

Hard to say, you could get lucky. Or not.
But the fact that there are cold-fruiting mushrooms means it's at least biologically possible, no matter how unlikely.

Check out this journal which was recently posted in this forum. His strain exhibits cold-resistance.

yes badman exactly that is what you want to do, in that way morelman is trying to induce stress and hopefully find a strain that can survive as you will then have good mother stock to work with.

By fuck over i mean put thousands of tiny tiny holes all over the cell walls of the myc network, not good.

It would be a much better idea to lower the temp to 2*C this way you get the cold without total mycelial destruction.

There's also active species that prefer colder temperatures , mostly wood-lovers if my research proves to be truthful. Might want to start with one of those.
