you think a cheap chinese knockoff scale on ebay would be worth it?

i'm expecting some chems that need milligram precision and currently possess no scale. i could get a rather cheap 0.001g scale from a high ranked ebay seller for just over $20. it looks like a knock-off of the American Weigh Gemini 20
contents of package: * 100% Brand New * 1 x Digital Pocket Scale (0.001g x 20g) * 1 x Robust Plastic Case Cover * 1 x 10g calibration weight * 1 x Weighing pan * 1 x Leather Pouch * 1 x English Instruction Manual
i'm not paying more than 30 bucks, as i'm on an extreme budget. so it's either something cheap, or i'll be eyeballing doses of jwh and 2c-e. seller has 98.8%+ feedback, and i went through all the pages of feedback to find that all buyers of this model left positive feedback.
whatchu think? likely so inaccurate as to be a waste or money, or better than nothing?

I bought a comparable pocket scale like that on eBay. They work alright for the price.

thanks for the quick input.
hell, there's enough auctions that i can link it and not worry about someone stealing it out from under me, so here http://cgi.ebay.com/0-001g-x-20g-AMW-Gemini-Digital-Milligram-Gram-Scale_W0QQitemZ270465102230QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef8f9f196&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
anyone else care to take a look and weigh in?

Looks like a decent one. I would make the purchase.
Just note, these scales are cheaply built(don't ever drop it). Lotsa' cheap plastics.
But they DO work, I have one upstairs that's been functional for over a year.

thanks for the bout of confidence.

Those are all I buy. I go even cheaper than that I buy the 10 dollar special.
Fuck dropping 40 bucks on a pocket scale I'll lose or trade in a couple months.

well this one had free international shipping, so it was the cheapest shipped offer i could find.
the $10-15 i saw cost like $25 (so $35-40 total) to ship internationally.
and thanks for the affirmation. i'm starting to feel this was a wise purchase. especially if i intend to share my chems in the future. i'd feel terrible giving someone way too much or way too little.

Yeah I'd say it will probably do its job... I had a marketing teacher who told me in china, parts used for supposedly higher quality stuff have been found in the generic knock offs... sometimes you pay for the brand.
I'm not trying to say this is true for everything, though.

that particular scale ime is accurate at about 25mgs. anything less than that and it varies a few MGs when you reweigh it. its not a bad scale though, if you baby it they will last. i've had mine since I think march.

how much does it generally vary by? more than 1 or 2mg? honestly most of my intended measurements will likely be under 25mg
it's too late to change now. the payment is complete. but 1 or 2mg isn't that bad. and i can always weigh several times and go for the mean/median if it's a bit worse.

A good way is to put a cigarette paper down on it and carefully drop on the extra required weight.
Saves dirtying the scale too.
Edit:You can twist them right up so they are good to go also.

yeah that's what you'll have to do. i tried to weigh out 20mg 2cb doses and they all varied a mg or 2 every time I weighed it. if you're trying to weigh out the really really sensetive chemicals of the world a cheap scale really isn't your best bet. for what I was really using it at the time for (.1g exact measurments and 25mg diazepam doses) it worked out pretty well for me.
i wouldn't trust it with anything less than 20mg though.

You can get really good scale deals on www.oldwillknot.com
And everything I've ever bought from there has been very accurate.

well, maybe with luck you just got a silly scale. if not, oh well. with repeat measurements, it's still better than eyeballing.

reading a 2c-e thread on bluelight, i found that the bottom threshold weight problem you talk about is actually fairly common among milligram pocket digis. the suggestion is to not tare the tray/paper. but rather just subtract the weight
and thanks madtown. i'll have to remember that for future reference.

the thing with these scales are is the plate will vary a few mgs too
even with the 10g calibration weight sometimes I couldn't get it to calibrate to 10gs even. it would always add or subtract a few mgs each time.
