It just rained here in San Antonio
    #11179665 - 10/04/09 10:34 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

there was a lot of thunder too.

I just realized something terrible. A few weeks ago, I stumbled across a group of mushrooms growing in my apartment complex which were next to some shrubbery and a skinny tree. I plucked one of them, took it home to show my sibs, and then I just threw it away. Just like that. I wasn't even a mushroom enthusiast at the time. But just earlier, I looked up mushrooms that grew in Texas and then I realized that those were actual cyans! But when I went back to the location where I found them, they were no longer there! I didn't realize they were cyans at the time and I had no idea what a cyan even was. Gah! I hope none of you have gone through anything like this. :frown:

Anyway, it rained. I'm definitely looking forward to my first hunt. What tools do you usually take with you when you usually go?

How sure are you that they were actually cyans?  What were they growing from?

Tools: Knife, camera, paper bag.

Don't fret. The chances that those mushrooms actually were cyans are very slim indeed. That doesn't mean you shouldn't start hunting though

I'm looking at photos of them right now which is what made me snap. They looked very grey underneath the umbrella and pale white on top. Would you say they are panaeolus cyanescens? They were growing next to a tree surrounded by a bush and around the bush the soil and of course the grass. It's your typical apartment complex gardening. It had been raining a lot at the time. I didn't see any others around though. I didn't count how many. The domes made them look like an arrow and the mushroom felt very fresh and young. That's all I know. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panaeolus_cyanescens

Those mushrooms were Panaeolus antillarum.

Or Panaeolus papilionaceus.
