Not cubes. Spore print should help. Although the pic isn't worth much, it does appear to show at least two different species in there. Most of the mushrooms in there look like honey mushrooms.

Yeah, there is a thinner mushroom with comparable coloration & shape, but the ratios & size are much different. Thanks for the responses so far!

The color of the caps of all the honey mushrooms I looked up seem to be way off...the stem is similar though: white.

The caps of these are darker...closer to a dark "oak".

Also, there is no malting or...flaking(?) on the stem. HOWEVER, on some of the smaller closed caps, there is.

I appreciate the visual, and realize it would be a crazy location, hence the post title. I was just hoping (beyond hope, I guess) that maybe there was some crazy global warming migration happening. Loonier things have happened...like the discovery of LSD.

I grew up in Columbia, SC, and can say with all certainty cubes grow there.  It's all we were able to find and eat!

** Or them being in Hawaii. That's quite a jump, if you look at the map.

Psilocybe cubensis likely came over on the early Spanish trade/slave ships from Africa. It is not native to North America.

The freeze line is the important factor, P. cubensis spores will not survive freezing temps..however, its mycelium will.

Also, you did not find them in or near horse or cow dung..

For a species to settle itself, you'd need at least a few decades of such conditions.

In any case, these are not cubes, so this is mostly a hypothetical argument anyway.

You are obviously not familiar with how this works. Hawaii is inside the "tropical belt". Cubensis grows within this region all over the world. Except Hawaii, ironically. Psilocybe cubensis are not native to Hawaii.

I'm not familiar with how this works, hence the "crazy location cube?" and asking for an ID request. However, warriorsouls post shows them being in Hawaii (or likely in Hawaii), and I've read that they do grow there. Native to? I guess not...but I don't profess to know...so, until I do, I'll ask.

Probably a honey mushroom, print will be white if it is a honey mushroom.
