Who am I missing out on?
    #11178424 - 10/04/09 02:44 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

So I started my journey into this whole psychedelic thing when I was introduced to Alan Watts by my friend's mother when I was 14.
Long story short, I've grown from a scared Christian kid to a full fledged psychonaut discordian agnostic of some weird kind.

Anyway, I've fallen in love with philosophical lectures and rantings, especially of people like Terrence McKenna and Robert Anton Wilson.

My question would be, just who exactly am I missing out on?

I've got hours and hours and hours of lectures by Alan Watts, Terrence McKenna, and Robert Anton Wilson.

So please, feel free to link to any and all google videos, youtube videos, mp3 files, webpages, what have you.

I want to hear all of your favorites!

I have been fascinated by Carl Sagan lately.

Look up his old TV show "Cosmos" and watch it during a trip. (Or sober, its still a great show)
Its incredible. It made me realize how very detailed nature is.

I looked at the wikipedia article on carl sagan on a trip 3.5 gram trip once,
This picture came up.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/be/Carl_Sagan_Planetary_Society.JPG/225px-Carl_Sagan_Planetary_Society.JPG

Even though it was a flat, low quality JPG on a flat monitor, it was full on 3D, coming out of the screen I was looking at. He looked like some evil perverse eagle god or something equally weird.

Anyway, Carl Sagan is great!

Yeah ive been highly motivated lately because of his work.
Tripping has only amplified the inspiration.

Excellent name dropping!

I'll add:

Peter Russell
Paul Stamets (How'd we forget him!)

HUGE collection of talks from McKenna (ones that aren't very common) and several others like Leary and new-age thinkers.

I think Nietzsche belongs in the list, particularly "Beyond Good and Evil" and "Antichrist." The latter helped transform me from a scared Christian kid. The former helped me sit back, relax, and enjoy the flow.

As much as we all know this is the ultimate goal, there's nothing wrong with standing on the shoulders of those who came before us.  We obviously create our own trips, but whether we realize it or not, the only things we have to create our trips out of is what we know and what we have experienced.
It's like telling a musician not to listen to other people's music.
The thing to remember is not to adopt someone else's philosophy as your own, i.e., don't swallow someone else's bullshit hook, line, and sinker.

well said kablamo, there should be no problems with people who decide to inform the psychoactive drug users and non-users about the workings of the inner mind and the different states of consciousness. not many people I know put themselves on level 5+ trips and then try to convey the workings to other people. peace terrence

Hey Kablamo, Yeah don't miss Paul Stamets, I take it you've seen this? It is MUST see Paul Stamets: 6 ways mushrooms can save the world

ALSO...........notice anything in the recommended list you have got up to now --of authors and speakers..............?:sherlock:

THAY ARE ALLLLLLLLLL MALES:eek: So I am recommending a woman. Monica Sjoo, and her book Return of the Dark/Light Mother or New Age Armegeddon? WHY is it good? Because she exposes the 'New Age' ideas and where many of them originate. And it will balance out? your male-top-heavy book collection:cool:

Can't believe no one has mentioned Ram Dass, although with Demonoid offline I'm not sure where to grab a bundle of his mp3s.

Still, he's well worth a listen if you like your psychedelic experience interpreted through Hindu philosophy.
