If I create a robot...
    #11177911 - 10/04/09 12:34 AM (8 years, 16 days ago)

and I fuck up on the programming, do I blame the robot?

If I create the robot with a desire and it attempts to fulfill that desire, do I blame the robot?

Don't blame the robots, they are only as perfect as we make them.

Then is not man only as perfect as (God/nature/evolution/nurture/environment) made us?

Where does our responsibility lie? Is it truly possible to be bad or evil or immoral?

Yup, we can think before we act. A robot will do only as it's programmed, we are able to program ourselves.

Yes, and...
What is evil is also perfect.:uptosomething:

Nice question. My answer is yes, it's possible to be bad or evil or immoral.

Unlike robots, or a program, man possesses both free-will and judgment. Of course we only have limited capacities confined to the constraints of our own definitions from a higher power (whether you believe that higher power is defined by God, nature, or evolution, etc) - but within those confines, we can make decisions that result in a better or worse conclusion in the world around us.

Really? Better for a few, but that is about it. Almost all actions that procure for your group will lessen resources for another group.

Not sure what you mean. My neighbor down the street just had his house painted this week. His house looks much better now. Neighbors are happy because the environment looks better. The painters that live outside of the neighborhood earned a nice paycheck, and they're really happy. The paint store (even further away) where the painters bought the paint is happy. I assume that the paint manufacturer (in another city) that made the paint appreciated that people wanted to use their paint.

I'm not sure who is suffering because of this positive decision. I'm sure someone will find something.

Yeah agreed. God put us here without giving us any information whatsoever, so its not our fault for messing up. Actually, I think thats exactly what he wants so he can have a good laugh.

God gave us free will.  The devil tempts you with desire.  Your job is to do the right thing. Blame the robot. (as the priest fingers your asshole)
