More Lawn Shrooms!
    #11176515 - 10/03/09 08:05 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Found these guys on the other side of the yard than i found the L. scabrum yesterday. They are in a moist shady part of the grass close to a row of bushes shown in the panned out picture. There is 2 big ones with caps around 4inches, and the other are 1-2 inches or just coming up. My guess is Boletus, but then again i almost ate lawn amanitas... any advice?

Maybe P. involutus...  Were there any Betula spp. (Birch) nearby??

There are a lot of undescribed Paxillus species which are practically indistinguishable from one another, and at least 2 genetically distinct, undescribed species in the US masquerading under the name "P. involutus".

But if they are growing with Betula, then just go ahead and call them P. involutus...  You aren't likely to ruffle any feathers.
