Cleaning Fruiting Chamber of Trichoderma
    #11175812 - 10/03/09 05:41 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

I recently had a small breakout of trichoderma on some cased cakes that were pretty much spent of nutrients.  Now that i'm cleaning out my fruiting chambers, what is the recommended method of cleaning my fruiting tubs of trichoderma spores to ensure there is no new contam of the next batch of cakes going into the chambers.

Diluted bleach spray?  Peroxide water spray? Boiling water?  I just want to ensure that my next batch doesnt pickup the spores from this corrupted batch.

Thanks for your help!

i've heard that bleach breaks down into material that can be colonized by fungus. so idk if thats your best option.

Bleach is getting a bad rap around here, (sorry trusted cultivators). I do realize that bleach does break down into contaminate food, this is true. BUT, bleach is one of the few chemicals that does not leave a residue IF you rinse it away properly. That is why it is used for fish aquariums. Soaps leave a residue and would kill the fishies.

If it were I, I would use a 10% bleach solution. Followed by a THOROUGH rinsing, followed by an alcohol wipe, which will evaporate.

Please don't flame me for using bleach. If done PROPERLY, it works well. :2cents:

I used that followed by a nice rinse and IPA rub-down. I'll let you know if the fungacides come to kill my grow in a week.

Bleach does what it does, but it doesn't do everything.
It's very effective against bacteria, that's why it's such a great foodservice sanitizer. Against spores, it's less effective.

And even 10% is high- really just a capful in a bucket of water is enough, that will get you to about 100ppm.

Warm water wash w/ soap, rinse w/ water, rinse w/dilute bleach, rinse w/ clean water. That'll clean almost anything off of almost anything.

Thanks everyone!  Great advise, lysol is what i have on hand and is therefore what I will use.

Just wanted to make sure I didnt have to burn my fruiting chambers to kill the little buggers.

Anyways, thanks again, always quick and accurate info from this forum.

Napalm, dynamite, and flamethrowers are also very effective. however, lysol and some soap should be a good alternative.

i soak my shotguns with bleach water between flushes. i put the tub in the tub and soak a few hrs then rinse with really hot water, sides inside & out. from there i put the top back on allow it to drain a few hrs, fluff the perlite a bit and put it back in my area after i wipe that down with bleach water as well.
