slow growing?
    #11175775 - 10/03/09 05:37 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

what do slow growing shrooms indicate?

I used the search button but couldnt find an answer.  I am growing Golden Teachers, and I birthed the cake about 3-4 days ago.  it had a few pins when i birthed it and they grew to about an inch long in one day, then for the next two have just sat there.  The only change i notice is that a shit ton more pins have popped up.  The other thing i notice is that my pins are clustered together (like 5 or 6 in one clump) and they're kinda fat.  They are in a dark yellow plastic tub with saran wrap (held tight so its pretty much clear by a rubber band around the outside of the tub) and i open it up to fan it about once a day.

could a contamination be slowing it down? (looks healthy all the way around) or is it normal for cakes to have periods of inactivity? or is it slow because its busy producing additional pins? thanks.

Having too much CO2 will stall fruiting. Maybe you should increase your FAE. Once a day sounds kind of skimpy. The shrooms grow in clusters normally. Check out the The Shroomery logo. A crap load of pins is good. Increase FAE. :imo:  :goodluck:

thanks.

the other thing i thought of is that i accidentally put way too much water into the perlite the other day so i had to tip the container sideways and use kleenex to sop up the water (and i ended up pouring it out using kleenex as a filter.) this put the cake sideways so i had to use a finger to support it or it woulda fallen against the rim of the container.

could this limited handling have an effect on the growth?

Once it's ready for fruiting, mycelium is pretty tough. I'd just pour of excess water next time, as opposed to using a Kleenex to wipe or pat. If your getting proper FAE the slick that remains will evaporate. I think you're worrying too much. I know it's hard. I do it every time. It helps to just bounce stuff off each other to help calm down the mommy hen feelings. LOL It'll be fine. Remember FAE!
