Let colonized jars sit 7 days before mixing with sub?
    #11174898 - 10/03/09 03:07 PM (8 years, 21 days ago)

Like the title says, should jars sit fully colonized for a week before adding them to your substrate, the same as if you were just doing cakes?

What are you spawning.  It doesnt even matter as soon as the jar is 100%  your good you can case or spawn

I read something about this too, I think RR said something about letting jars stay a week after colonization, the fruiting process will be a lot faster or something like that if you make your colonized jars sit.

I would really like to see a link where RR suggested this.  Why would you do this.  Not if you are spawning cause why wait seven days then wait again for the substrate to colonize.  And when you case again you have to wait for the myc to go thru your casing layer

its said t leave it 100% for a few days after is to give the myco time to fully colonize in the inside of the spawn...i do this as well...maybe 3-5 days but i havent tried 7....

Hey truskool, I think he's getting confused with consolidating a colonized bulk substrate.

O.P., if your jars of mycelium look 100% colonized, then they are. The distance between the sides of your jars, (diameter), is considerably less than the area that you can see outside the jar. Therefore, if the jar looks 100% around the outside, the middle that you cant see is colonized as well.

When RR mentions consolidation, he is referring to a spawned to bulk substrate. After the tray, (or tub, or whatever), looks to be 100% colonized, it will usually still take about a week to ten days before the bulk substrate is ready to produce fruits. This is called the consolidation period. RR recommends, and the logic is obvious once explained, that you do not introduce the 100% colonized bulk substrate to the FC at this time, BECAUSE, since it's going to take a week to ten days before it begins to fruit ANYWAY, why lose moisture and expose to contaminates now? Let the 100% colonized bulk substrate "consolidate" in it's nice safe environment. Then once it's digested it's meal and it wants to give back to it's Daddy, (this is you), you can safely put the strong, healthy, wanting to fruit now, mycelial mat into it's FC.

Easy.

Hope this helps brudda. :goodluck:
