When did shrooms become illegal?
    #1117440 -

When did shrooms become illegal in the USA? And I want to ask the government why they illegalized it. And why did they illegalize marijuana? Oh wait, I think it has something to do with racism. Sometimes I feel like the war on drugs is all about racism and fascism. Are the millions of tax paying marijuana smokers really just criminals?

Good old mary jane never hurt anyone.

It's a freakin' conspiracy.
"There are about 50,000 products which can be made from the marijuana (hemp) plant. It has been used since the dawn of history for the widest variety of uses. These uses include fibers, fuels, materials, and medicine. The first American laws regarding marijuana were passed in the 1700's and required farmers to grow hemp (marijuana) because of its tremendous commercial value for dozens of uses. It was grown throughout the United States as a commercial product well into the 1940's. It was made illegal in 1937 largely as a result of pressure from oil and chemical companies who feared the competition from marijuana. Despite the laws, during World War II marijuana was considered so vital to the national interest that the US Government exempted farmers from military duty if they grew marijuana. Local 4-H clubs were encouraged to have their members grow marijuana and the US Government produced a film called "Hemp for Victory"'

Marijuana produces fibers which are ideal for ropes, cloth, paper, and dozens of other products. The fiber is unusually strong, soft, absorbent and cheap to produce. If we grew marijuana solely for paper production, we could completely eliminate cutting forests for paper. Marijuana produces eighty times as much usable fiber per acre as a comparable stand of forest.

Marijuana can produce several different kinds of fuel. In the 1800's and 1900's hempseed oil was the primary source of fuel in the United States and was commonly used for lamps and other oil energy needs. The diesel engine was originally designed to run on marijuana oil because Rudolf Diesel assumed that it would be the most common fuel. Mairjuana is also the most efficient plant for the production of methanol. It is estimated that, in one form or another, marijuana grown in the United States could provide up to ninety percent of the nation's entire energy needs.

Marijuana is useful for a wide variety of medical problems and, according the the Drug Enforcement Administration's Chief Administrative Law Judge, "marijuana is probably the safest therapeutically active substance known to man," and "it is safer than many of the foods we commonly eat." Marijuana is often the most effective treatment for chronic pain, glaucoma, nausea from chemotherapy, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and other medical conditions."

The Government can make up any reason they like to make marijuana illegal. Seems they don't want to admit they're dead wrong.

Believe it. Hemp is a wonderful gift from God.

In this country, at least (Canada), commercial hemp has to be either THC-free or extremely low in THC... and by low, I mean extremely low, as in, impossible to get high off of.

I own more than a dozen pieces of hemp clothes, mostly pants and shirts. It's a pleasantly comfortable fabric that breathes extremely well. It's great summerwear, but the unfortunate thing about hemp clothes is that the cold blows right through them. As soon as the first snow flakes fall, I gotta put away my hemp clothes and break out the heavier fabrics.

Hemp could also, according to some, help in remedying the world's paper needs because of our rapidly diminishing forrests.

The Hemp is out there. *cue the X-Files theme song*

Shrooms in t and of theirselves are not illegal. The chemical substance witin them is what is illegal by law.

and this thread was about the illegality of shrooms not Marijuana. and/or hemp.

However poppy seeds are not illegal as marijuana seeds are. poppy seeds can be purchased legally in 2 pound tins from any bar and restaurrant supply firm in any major city.

Then they are sold on the internet and through magazines like High Times for 5.00 dollars per gram of dried seed. not bad for a $6.00 2 pounds investment.

And yes it was hearst and several paint thinner companies which made the pot illegal as a drug not as a source of evrything mentioned abve but the real problem is the United nations Charter which forbids the legalization of marijuana and that is signed by over two hundred countries.

I worked for one year rewiting D. mark D. Merlin's book on hemp:

Man and marijuana, the first modern book written on hemp in America except for James Allen's The Reign of Law: The Story of the Kentucky Hemp Farmers.

James allen was a contr4obersial author during the late 1800s and early 1900s whose style of writing was similer to nathaniel Hawthorne.

He also wrote a compleat book about the life of a Kentuck warbler.

anyway, lets try to keep tot he subject matter. The only state in the united states where a psillocybine mushroom is actually legal to posses in small amounts is Psilocybe cubensis and that state is florida. The chemicals psilocine, psilocybine, trptopah, trptamine became illicit when they created the conterolled substances act.

later they added baeocystine and norbaeocystine.

currently there are no laws agains aeruginascine named and discovered by gartz in Psilocybe aeruginasciens. Also Stijve in Switzerland just found a new indole in some cubensis specimens I discovered in thaland

I thought the shrooms were illegal if they're prepared by the hand of man in any way, such as drying, brewing packaging etc.

Yeah that's right. In england shrooms are totally legal to grow, sell and consume if they're not dried or prepared in any way. In london right now they're being sold all over the place!! I've got mates with tanks full of them who then supply the headsjops around the area!! Fan-shrooming-tastic. that's what i say.

Dupont had alot to do with making hemp illegal. It was competition in the market and dupont had enough pull to help push the plant to the illegal status.

You need to read "The Emperor Wears no Clothes" by Jack Herer. I think you can read most of his book online. It's a must read.

Mushrooms are illegal because they promote deep and critical thought.
