strange little shrooms in my outdoor grow
    #11173769 - 10/03/09 09:10 AM (8 years, 20 days ago)

anybody have any idea what these little guys are?  They seem to be growing right out of the oak ridge mycelium.  They come up in the morning and wilt before afternoon.  the pics are full grown

Probably a Parasola species. Do you use horse manure as a substrate?

yes it's horse shit, it wasn't a relly serious outdoor grow at all, just basically mixed some colonized rye grain into a bunch of crap.  Worked last time i did it.  My indoor grow is very extensive so this is just something i'm toying with when i have time

i looked again and as soon as the sun crossed the top of my fence the other couple shrooms were already totally wilted, and i just looked at them 15 minutes ago.  Must be nocturnal

No, they are just very small, grow fast and dry out as soon as the sun hits them. I got a lot of Parasola popping up in the horse manure I am weathering outside.

and the massive displeasure of cooking shit in my kitchen, not to mention the fact that i'm putting it OUTSIDE full of bacteria, spores, insects, animals, pollutants, and everything else in my lawn.(i saw a squirrel picking through the pile)  Thats like pressure cooking pf tek jars and then opening them to inoculate....totally pointless.  Besides I said in my post it's just for the hell of it, all of my focus is on my inside grows.

pasturizing shit and putting it out side is no were near pcing a pf tak jar and opining to inoculate

and pasturizing is just to kill whats all ready growing in there

thats cool but like my post said this is just for the hell of it-i had ton's of rye jars and i used one on this-end of story. I DON'T CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO THE PILE it's just a novelty to me, i have no time to deal with it and don't care nearly enough to pasteurize it more power to you if you sterilize your outdoor garden.  This thread was about identifying a mushroom and we did that.

and it is very the same, you pasteurize to sterilize right?  And then throw it outside fuuuuuuullllllllll of contaminants, right?

you pc the jar to sterilize right?  then open it to inoculate in the air fuuuulllll of contams which is not exactly the same but the same principle

HoK is actually right.
When you get the manure it is already choke full of microorganisms that will compete with your mycelium for nutrients and others that will even attack it (Trichoderma parasitizes cubensis by puncturing strands of mycelium and plugging into them, depleting the organism of nutrients). In the light of that, it seems to be a good idea to get rid of as many competing or dangerous microorganisms while trying to preserve beneficial ones, such as firefang. That's why we pasteurize bulk substrates instead of sterilizing them. Firefang will survive that process, whereas Trichoderma and bacteria in its active vegetative state (as opposed to the dormant state as endospores) will not. By sterilizing the substrate before spawning to it, you will give your mycelium a head start and a better chance to colonize it all the way through in an optimal way.
