hello!
i've had an interest in mushrooms for a while now. i've been reading about them lately, doing research and all, but i decided to go ahead and make a post asking for some valuable newbie information, and what i should know before i start, how you started, where i even begin?

I researched and read about psychedelics,  mushrooms more specifically, for almost a year before i finally took my first dose. Though nothing can prepare you for a psychedelic experience, having somewhat of an idea of what your getting into helps.

Keep on reading and learning, you'll know when you're ready for your first trip.

Erowid and your local public library are two great places to start. And trip reports, though i think most are poorly written, there are some really good ones out there that convey what it's like to trip...

If you are doing research, that is good, never stop learning.

It is easy to get carried away.

The human mind is very fragile and very resiliant.

Just because something feels good, doesnt mean it is good.
Just because something feels bad, doesnt mean it is bad.

You will not die from overdosing on shrooms.

You will not go permanantly crazy from eating shrooms, unless you have reason to believe you have mental illness already, or if there is a high frequency of it in your family.

If you are over excited, it is just a physical response.
If you are over nervous, it is just a physical response.

Do not be afraid.

And dont jump out of windows because "god tole me I could fly!":tongue2:

But, most of all, just dont be afraid. :heart:


Relax, Stay open, Relax, Go with the flow, Resistance is futile, Relax.

honestly, i don't really know how to go about finding them, or finding a dealer. i live in northwest ohio, if that helps tell anyone where i could pick them, but i'm a little afraid of picking them anyway.

and about the mental illnesses mentioned before...
i know i don't have any. my parents had me go to psychologists when i was younger, and i've never been diagnosed with anything, no one's ever told me they think i have anything, but i believe my dad has anxiety. could this make it more dangerous for me to try them?

No, not anymore dangerous than anyone else who has eaten them before you.

Have you thought about growing your own?

It is relativly simple, inexpensive, no worrying about mis-identification or dealing with shady people.

I'm not sure what actives can be found growing around Ohio. DO some research and learn what grows in your area & how to identify mushrooms. There is a hunting and ID forum here than can help you with your finds. If you smoke & buy weed from someone just ask them if they know anyone with mushrooms for sale...


And only you know if your safe & ready to trip, regardless of what people say you do and don't have....

Have you ever smoked weed? I smoked weed before I tried mushrooms, but it wasn't until after trying a hard psychedelic that I learned to love marijuana  :heartpump:  :potleaf:
  I would recommend you blaze it up first. Weed is a relatively weak psychedelic that will help introduce you into the world of "altered consciousness."
  Other than that, if you find a pot dealer, you could prolly find a shroom dealer through your pot dealer. Potheads likes shroomz.

Growing them may seem a bit intimidating, but it's shit easy. Also, once you've grown them, you'll be like, "woah brah, I just grew mah own shroomz..." It's a pretty weird feeling. :grin:

i've thought about growing them, and i've found online stores where they sell big kits to grow them.
with the weed, i did try it when i was younger but i saw all the kids in my high school looking braindead from it so i stayed away from it, hahah. i guess i wouldn't mind trying it again.
i think i might invest in one of the growing kits though. it seems expensive but i'd rather have my own stuff than go out and buy something from someone i don't know and end up in a bad situation.

Well, check your local laws, the kits arent legal everywhere.....

In the US( as far as I am currently aware )

Spores are legal.

Growing the Shroom is illegal.

So, if you buy a grow kit that COMES WITH SPORES...... You are expressing and intent to grow, which is illegal.

Besides which, the kits are mostly a waste of money, it is so ridiculously easy to grow.......

Sterilization is the most critical point, and if you are worried about that, they sell bags that have pre-sterilized substrate in them.

And then on another site, you could order some spores, FOR MICROSCOPIC PURPOSES only. :cool:

Keep your eye out for a pressure cooker though..... the one time investment will pay for itself.

i saw the pressure cooker in one of the kits, what is it used for?
and what should i grow the mushrooms in? the kits came with big storage tubs... is there anything else i would need that i could buy separately on my own?

PC is for sterilizing stuff. The heat and increased pressure = dead contaminates, such as mold and bacteria.

find the nearest cow farm and take a look. if you have a connect for anyother substance, ask if shroom are avabile, or if they know any one. try taking a walk in any local woods, golf cources, or other area that would have mulched landscape. go to parties and ask around. or grows your own. shrooms are in more places than you'd think:yesnod:

All I've got to say is,

just make sure you really want to do them, be in somewhere you feel safe and you can be without worry

AND! definitely make sure you are with people who you actually like and that you can be comfortable with :smile:

i have all the research and a few hundred page manual on growing shrooms and all the equipment. but ffs i live in california one of what 3? states to make spores illegal. just not fucking fair.

just make sure you trip with people you trust and care for you, one ill attempt at humor can send your trip into the gutter.

even if i did extensive research, i dont trust going out shroom hunting. plus here in socal i dont think good ones grow wild out here

Yep.
My friend was with his best friend on a trip, that dude made a dark humor joke and it sent my friend into a terribly horrifying trip.
So make sure if you are around people you know they don't try to deliberately scare you or make you uncomfortable in any way.

You don't need to know anything before tripping, and an hour after you ingest all the information the 'big boys' give you here will seem utterly useless and redundant. The only pointers are so obvious that even spelling them out feels a waste of time;

1) Don't trip in a massive group of people. Mushrooms are not for parties, they're for soul-searching.

2) Only trip with those you trust, as you'll be in an extremely vulnerable state (even if you don't feel that way).

3) Don't trip anywhere even remotely scary.

4) Spend at least a small portion of your trip outside, staring at the stars.

And that really is it.
