Need reassurance on fruiting chamber conditions, tray.
    #11168908 - 10/02/09 11:38 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Hello, it has almost been 5 days my tray has been in the fruiting chamber, and I just need some reassurance.  This is my first ever grow.

I have noticed that my mycelium has been growing more puffier (not cobweb) on the surface of the tray.  Should I be worried about this, does this mean that I am going in the right direction?  I threw the tray in the fruiting chamber when I saw that mycelium was poking through the surface everywhere.

Another concern is I think my humidity is low.  In the pictures that are enclosed, the sides of the fruiting chamber are wet because I usually mist them down to create a micro climate that will hopefully raise humidity.  My hygrogemeter reads 55% which I do not believe is correct.  I would try to adjust it, but I do not think it is adjustable because it has a small opening and a coil or roll of metal in the back.  The temperature reads 70 F.  There is 3 inches of perlite in the fruiting chamber.  Should I go out and buy another bag of perlite?

Also, I should have used a smaller tray, I'm probably gonna get lots of fruits growing from side of tray.

Air exchange is the number 1 pinning trigger, and I don't see very many holes in that terrarium.

I took the pictures using a cell phone camera, the light seems to block out a lot of the holes... but anyways I drilled about 120-150 holes everywhere.  If you say that I need more holes drilled then I will do so then.

edit: about 144 holes not including the bottom.

Hey, I would like more opinions.  So should I just drill more holes into the FC?  Wouldn't that bring down the humidity?

I'm confused..

Is that a casing layer or a not 100% colonized substrate?

1/4" holes every 2" on all six sides is what the shotgun terrarium is..

OK, but what was your casing layer made of?

Jiffy Seed Starter Mix, when I first threw it in the fruiting chamber the casing had mycelium poking surprisingly evenly throughout the casing.
