numerology

Anybody believe in it?
I was skeptical at first. Found this site where you plug in your birthdate and birth name and they send you this report with three numbers calculated from that. I thought it might be like horoscopes, where they give you something so general that you can't help but relate. But I read through this report and I'd say it was about 95% dead nuts accurate. Kinda creepy. It was like they pulled it from a CIA file or something.
I know there's things that can be unfolded with numbers and I do believe that the time of year you're born in shapes who you are to some extent. But this was just weird.
Glad I was cautious though. You can pay for a continued service from the site but I was so intrigued by it that I had a report sent for my wife too. Hers was pretty accurate as well. But then I noticed that we both got the same exact follow up e-mail. So that made me think that they start you off with something possibly authentic and let you pay for crap after that (if you're dumb enough).

I think numbers have an uncanny ability to describe much of the world and universe. But modern numerology is completely bogus.

there is a geometry to everything. i "believe in" that, and I believe there is definite significance to numbers and their inherent geometry, but I don't know enough about "numerology" to know if anybody really gets it or not. Kinda like Jesus

So why is it if I give it my birthday and my first name "Dave" or do it again and give it "David", I get totally contradicting reports? (Not my real name, just used as an example.)
It's all crap.

Well, that's why it says to enter it as it appears on your certificate.
But yeah, I already came to that thought myself. My wife's middle name is Lynn. Officially. But her mom's a blonde and she wanted it to have an "e" at the end so she wrote it in thinking it would make a difference I guess. So she's really 2 totally different people.
I still say it was a little uncanny. I got reports for three people altogether. I'm the most into psychedelics out of all of us. It said that because of the type of spiritual person I am I will probably have a tendency to not only use drugs, but think that I can't do any harm to my psyche with them. As a result, I may be susceptible to astral attack. That's just one of many examples I could make. But I've already experienced astral attack through being dumb with ayahuasca once and I knew that's what it was well before this thing.

holy wtf.. i just googled this and found a site that does a free thing based off your name. it's pretty specific for me i put in my full name including middle name.
http://www.paulsadowski.com/numbers.asp
Just found this other one that does your birthday, and again, creepy, because not only does it detail me perfectly, it also lines up with the results based off my name.

Got something back from it already huh?
Yeah, that's not even the site that I found.
I mean, I don't want to be a moron about it. I'm sure the whole thing's automated and the person/people running it don't have to do shit. Just a money generator.
Still, that's not to say they couldn't have compiled studies on people throughout history or something.
Admittedly, the third one that I did was for a friend and it was way off in my eyes. But he can be a dickhead and I think they try to make these things as positive as possible.

I dunno...the name one was way off, and the birthday one was mostly random facts,
although i did find this funny... "Your Native American Zodiac sign is Otter", because just a little while ago I was going to post some "Otter nonsense" in the utter nonsense thread

numbers are the easiest system we have to attach meaning to. once you start searching for a system you'll find it. numbers are a human invention. nothing supernatural about it all really.

not really. How do you think your genes were selected? it's all mathematics, when it comes down to it

Mathematics is a descriptive language, not a defining system.

things don't have to be named and numbered to divide and multiply

Good argument you guys got going there.
I read an article a while back talking about how numbers and laughter would far outlast the internet.
I don't know if I agree that numbers are a human invention entirely, so much as something we observed. But I can see where both you guys are coming from.
