Sitting datura freaks....?
    #11166967 - 10/01/09 10:48 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

I'm going to be sitting a dude who is eating two pods full of datura innoxia seeds. Any tips for possibly keeping him from chopping his tongue off?

If it comes down to it, print this up and bring it to the hospital with you: http://www.pshm.org/datura_poisoning.shtml

In other words, ask for him to be treated with physostigmine salicylate.  A hospital stay may not be in order.  However, I suggest adequate preparation if "shit hits the fan".

Delirium is the term y0u are looking for.  Many who take datura don't remember they took datura for the majority of the 12+ hours they spend talking to people from their past and smoking phantom cigarettes.

Ha the phantom cigarette thing is great, I saw my friend prepare and then cook an entire meal that wasn't there.  He knew I was there though at times (not at others), and offered me some.  Actually he was pretty jovial the whole time though he was also talking to other people who weren't there.  I couldn't convince him he was on drugs though

I would never put somebody I consider a friend into a situation where they have to control things while I completely lose control.  And I would never trust someone who wasn't a friend to do it.

Datura is a terrible poison, help your friend find some shrooms instead.

i cant say anything that hasnt been said here, but just thought it was funny how ridiculously irresponsable someone could have been about a dosage with that stuff...i used one flower in a brew i was making kava and fresh passion vine, and that already intense and i was, as most people were, well a different world lol. good thing you posted on here and asked! but i know kids these days like going big and then to the hospital for their parents to pick em up a couple days later.

First and foremost, I suggest that you try to get him to take a lower dose, even if it's still a single full seed pod.  Chances are very high that one will make for the well known multi-day tropane experience, and doubling the dose really just increases the chance of death.

thats the dangerous part, its easy enough to just tie him up or something or deadbolt the doors or restrain him if you are big enough, but the fact that its poisonous and unpredictably so is the real problem.

i know its too late, but the same thing can be done much shorter term, by going and getting store brand diphenhydramine (same shit as benadryl, why pay more?) and looking up on erowid how much to take and then drinking some coffee to stay awake. same experience, much less dangerous, much shorter if its not fun, still easily accessible and pretty damn cheap still.

datura dosages vary wildly.  i've eaten like 4 seedpods and only had a 24 hour experience.  the only way to properly dose is to slowly work your way up with specific plants (assume each plant even if they're right next to each other will be different potency, even though they probably won't).

as a sitter the best thing you can do is safety proof the house.  no glass, no knives, try to remove all hazards.

after that do your best to get the tripper to drink water before during and after, it can dehydrate you like crazy, and makes your mouth extremely dry and swollen.

make sure you can tell the difference between someone laying there unresponsive and someone having a serious medical problem.

aside from that just keep a little tape recorder and video camera.  you really won't be able to interact too much.  people severely intoxicated are pretty easily manipulated physically, i've only seen it make people slow and stuporous in their movements.

just don't let them go outside, and if you're a really good friend you can help them change their clothes when they inevitably piss all over themselves.

I would never sit for someone who is trying to dose on such risky business and cause such a risk to both parties. I just don't see it ending good.

Coax him out of dosing so much..perhaps suggest an alternative??:mushroom2:

that was a cool link...

http://www.pshm.org/datura_poisoning.shtml

"The antidote of choice is physostigmine salicylate, trade name Antilrium. It works fast. Onset of action, when given parenternally is 3-8 minutes. It needs to be used carefully, given slowly, and should be used cautiously with those with asthma. Physostigmine quickly lessens the mental confusion, hallucinations, and physical effects of datura poisoning. Physostigmine has fewer side effects and complications than either benzodiazepines or phenothiazines. Victims of datura poisoning treated with physostigmine have shorter hospital stays than those treated with benzodiazepines or phenothiazines. Request physostigmine. If the doctors refuse to give physostigmine in a bad poisoning case, ask them to explain why they will not give it. Have them put their response in writing.

Benzodiazepines (Valium like drugs) are usually a poor second choice. They don't work nearly as well as physostigmine. The benzodiazepine dosages are very high, and usually blur the clients' consciousness further, leaving him or her sedated for a long time. The benzodiazepines offer little or no relief for the somatic disturbances caused by datura seeds. They will not necessarily lessen mental anguish, but will slow down and sedate the poisoning victim, rendering him or her safer from self-harm.

Phenothiazine tranquilizers should never be used for datura poisoning. Unfortunately, they are often used- they are the uneducated doctors' first choice of treatment. Haloperidol (Trade name Haldol) and chlorpromazine (trade name Thorazine) are sedative antipsychotics - used to sedate agitated people. They sedate the client, but also exacerbate mental distress, and often aggravate physical symptoms. They both strongly blur the mind, and will indeed make the client loose any understanding of what has happened. They often aggravate the datura seed intoxication, adding into the datura seeds' anticholinergic poisoning through their own anticholinergic action. Worse agitation, drier mouth and more blurred vision are the result. Unfortunately, these two drugs are often the first chosen in an emergency room for datura intoxication. Phenothiazine tranquilizers are little more than chemical straight jackets. Ask for physostigmine."

Ok, update. It was actually tonight that he was gonna do them, so he's not dead or even intoxicated yet , but I managed to persuade him to just make some tea with two flowers instead. Besides, I'm a girl and rather smaller than him, so I don't think restraint would be in order. I'll post if he dies. :crazy2:

I don't know, I don't find many drugs alluring at all. I don't like being fucked up, so datura has no appeal to me, nor does alcohol and many others. I just like cannabis and shrooms

Everyone says "no, don't do it", but how many of you have actually tried it(not to be a prick, but non-smokers of pot judge it)? I've heard good and bad.

i have it was not a fun experience. you cant tell that your trippng if ou go to high I just dont see the point when there are so many other safe psychedelics to use. And its definatly not for a beginner. Unless youve spent a few years studying psychoactives in depth id suggests staying away from this plant.

In Nepal shamans look highly upon this plant. Terrence McKenna disliked datura, actually.

I also heard the early images of hell came from this plant, and in the middle ages they would force a thorn apple into witch's mouths, causing them to hallucinate and die.

It fascinates me. One sensation I LOVE about heavy psychedelic experiences is that feeling of being completely powerless...at the mercy of existence. Datura is something I DEFINITELY want to try in a VERY controlled environment at some point. Not until i've gotten quite a bit more experience under my belt, though.

It DEFINES what we mean by "all life is a dream." Dark side, yes; because it's so goddamn brutally honest, we realize that nothing is real. Thinking about that NOW scares me shitless, but experiencing it must be nothing short of profound if you have an appreciation for perception/the "relativeness" of reality.

datura has had a veeeerrrry  long history of shamonic use, andas i stated if youare knowledgable and have spent time researching these types of chemicals then go for it most of the posts you see where people talk negetivly about it is for the noobs and kids looking for a free high.

does your screename have nothing to do with brugmunsia?  Or is this hate relationship something new?

I did datura a couple times, and the first i didn't get too jacked up, just felt odd, had dry mouth, and blurry vision for about a day, thought it was a lot of hype with no deliver.  The second attempt I got much much more fucked up, it was more or less like a really long dramamine trip, not necessarily enjoyable, but i didn't hate it either, very weird.  The second attempt though the after affects lasted for DAYS, i looked like shit, felt like shit, had dry mouth that would not go away to the point i could barely eat what i wanted, that part wasn't fun, the trip itself though wasn't.

then i just figured to myself if i want to feel that way i would just go get some dramamine and pop those.  Much more dosable, shorter acting, and just as fucking crazy...

peace

IMO it's not so bad, I only tried a few leaves though. I basically just decided it wasn't working after three hours of eating...get orrible cotton mouth though....and then watched some vamp movies and went to bed. Needless to say it did work, I watched screaming bats swirl around in circles all night. It probably wasn't worth it, I'd trade four hours of good sleep for that. It just made me really confused and panicky and the next two days I just felt drowsy. On the third day I couldn't stand light...lucky me I was at the beach...and I'm still rather sensitive to bright sunlight. Yerch.

Yes, I've read all of the datura trip reports on Erowid (or at least 95%), and there was nothing like that.  There are plenty where people (kids) go to the hospital from ODing or ignorance, a handful with accidental injuries, a guy who almost set his house on fire, and an imagined sword fight in a Japanese garden with musashi, but I saw nothing with blatant self-harm.

Nother UD...

He took approximately 600-700 seeds, which is stupid and I wouldn't even attempt, but somehow he remains alive, in his boxers, and walking around sniffing things and being hilarious. I didn't actually sit him because I was so pissed off at him for being such a ass, but his roommate is apparently kinda sorta watching him...mostly just laughing though. We live with about twenty five other people in this community type-thing (they all hate drugs) so I'm gonna go talk to his roomie about keeping him inside. Wish me luck.

what's so fun about an extra-dimensional being coming down and taking you on a trip to the 11th dimension? sure you wouldn't be able to comprehend it, but at least you'd have the experience under your belt.

At times I just feel like the society I/we live in is so fucked that I'd just like to get away from it all and do my own thing, whatever it may be.

One of my dreams would be to save up and buy some land(maybe pool money together with like-minded people so it would be more achievable/realistic) and live off the land and just have fun.

Nice weather would be essential, far far away from anywhere so police wouldn't be a worry.

And that's all she wrote.

No....more like a religious cult type thing. You've probably heard of it...anyhow, I'm leaving it.

Woah, would you mind starting a new thread and talking about it?

I am fascinated by cults and the minds of their leaders.

I would really appreciate it and I think a lot of other Shroomerites would too.

Even more interesting is the people who join them...

What you said sounds pretty neat (in the sense that it would be something I would do), but that's not what a religious cult is. She specifically said religious cult.

Oh right,okay.

I'm sure if any run of the mill commune was isolated enough and the people there consumed enough psychs then ideologies there could become fairly warped to say the least.

Take the Cuddle Kid Collective for example.

It's a group of Alex Supertramp worshipers from the Shroomery.

I didn't read the whole thread but the magic eight ball says 'It will all end in tears or else daddies bailing them out'.

tie him down, flash strobes at him while blasting childrens crying, primate howls/screeches and human screams into his ears.

then tell him he has been dead for 8 years.

Seriously, this cult thing, you guys have probably heard of it. I'll start a new thread on it in a bit, though. Meanwhile my docile friend seems somehow to be lucid even though he probably hasn't slept in about two days and is covered in scratches and is probably seeing some seriously weird shit. Yesterday he tried to fry a pan of salt, was caught in the act of giggling randomly and started to talk to random things using disjointed words and staring off into space. Amazingly, he manages to walk around, go to classes, wash dishes and talk coherently. Every time he looks at me he looks seriously freaked out though.

but at least you'd have the experience under your belt.

I disagree. An experience is an experience because you can learn from it. If you do not remember a situation, how are you meant to take anything from it?

Well, not remembering and not comprehending are two entirely different things. Of course you wouldn't be able to take much from an experience you can't remember. But if you can remember it, though not understand or comprehend it, I believe one could take from that and deduce a subjective view on the matter.
This is, in part, how I believe some, if not most religions began. A vague experience or concept that an individual or a group of people sought to interpret in various ways.
An experience that's glistened with hazy layers of snowy imagery and distorted perceptions of time and space, yet a vague sense of familiarity and a constant state of deja-vu is worth considering, or at the very least not shoved aside completely, to study subjectively amongst oneself for further spiritual and psychological enlightenment.

if I may add, though I've never done Datura and don't plan to any time soon, I have done my fair share of Diphenhydramine, a synthesized deleriant derived from it. Out of all drugs I've taken for recreational purposes, I still find one experience from this drug in particular quite intriguing. It was unlike anything I'd ever experienced. I'd feel a way I hadn't felt in over a decade, I'd believe I'd woken up from a dream I'd had 8 years ago. I'd be answering questions people had asked me yesterday. I was getting ready to go somewhere I had already gone a week ago. I would stop and think to myself.. "this has already happened". I'd prepare myself for what I was about to say to the person who was sitting next to me only to realize that there was no one there. I'd be flipping through television channels with no remote in my hand, the tv turned off and there being no tv in the room to begin with, only to open my eyes and realize I'm in the shower. I turn the water off and realize I just opened the refrigerator.. in my neighbor's house! then I'd turn around and realize I hadn't moved an inch since the beginning of the trip...

I hear the door bell ring and I go down stairs to see who's there. Then I forget what a door bell sounds like, so I ring the door bell to find out. Then I'm back up stairs and hear the door bell ring.. "I wonder who that is..." and so on..
was it me who rang the door bell? am I seeing the future and past but not the present? what's happening?

this, to me (though terrifyingly confusing) is very interesting and in retrospect, incredibly intriguing to think about.
