You would have to do multiple transfers on agar to clean up a contamed print

Sure if you have a nice microscope you should see the mold spores

lol what? you just said you can't tell by looking at the agar? if the agar is white and looks like mycelium it's not contaminated?

well here is how it works
you knock up some agar with whatever (spore, tissue whatever)

then you grow it out..
the mushroom myc will be ropey and rhyzomorphic
you then tahe a sample of the good MYC and transfer to a new agar plate

then once that grows out (contam free) you have a good source to inoc your jars with.

you can go even further with the plates and transfering but more on that later.

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

i see. so it's not a good idea to use the first agar dish but a second or third transfer before inoculation.

how do

so you got spores from print........ you make a tube with part of the print. and put  a drop from the tub onto a mda plate. wait 1+ week and you get this.....

can you see all the little dots?  each one is a different strain.....or what ever you want to call it..... they each come from 2 spores linked together.

now you remove the biggest/fastest growing ones and put them on new plates. this is were you cross your fingers and hope they grow out nice.

if they are con tamed then remove a section from the plate that has no contam and put it on a new plate. and repeat if you have to.

now you can take some myco from your uncontamed isolated plate and make a lc. which you inject into grain jars.

once they grow you can do g2g. and this is the point you want to be at....... i mean its the reason for all the agar work anyway right.

No. Taking from the edge of the print won't make a difference.

Trichoderma and other Molds often appear bright white and can appear to be mycelium to the untrained eye. After a few times working with mycelium on agar you will be able to easily tell if your dish is contaminated. Mold spores aren't common on prints from indoor grows. However if you are using wild prints, mold spores are usually abundant. This has been my experience at least.

Bacteria is the most common contamination i've seen with hobby growers.

Cleaning up a contaminated print isn't even a pain if you're working with Cubensis.
