Traveling to the Amazon
    #11166003 - 10/01/09 10:17 PM (8 years, 19 days ago)

To start off I had no idea where to post this. I didn't put it in the off topic forum because I would never get a serious answer. But if anyone knows the correct place please move it there.

I am traveling to the Amazon rainforest this summer with a close friend. I have close to nothing figured out.

Does any one know of any boats that travel from the U.S to brazil?
Also does anyone know of a specific tribe that would welcome visitors to stay with them for a few months and how to get to them.

Thanks

I bet you'll find info if you search my name and "ayahuasca"

Join the Ayahuasca.com forums and start reading around.

Im not an expert, but ill tell you what i know.

1st off - you are going to want to fly to Peru not take a boat.

If you are searching for ayhuasca you are going to want to fly to Iquitos, or your other option is river boat although it takes a week and is apparently pretty gnarly/uncomfortable.

Apparently the small river city of "san fransisco" is also really a hotbed of ayahuasca but is considerably more dangerous than Iquitos and i reckon you'd want to be somewhat comfortable with the language and coping with your surroundings/people if you went there, where as iquitos is a tourist mecca.

There is an ayahuasca conference in Iquitos which attracts alot of tourists in the summer, maybe you'd be interested in that?

Anyways, the specific tribe you are after is "the shipibo people" i can give you a contact who will take you up the river and introduce you/arrange something if you want.

+ if your hell set on going to Brazil, then disregard the info i've provided. However, take note, that Peru is cheaper and has a thriving ayahuasca scene + i think it would be more common to go to Peru looking for that, before Brazil. I think in Brazil the ayahuasca church has more influence vs. in Peru its more of its own religion/medicine/cultural thing without any religious significance.

Search for my south america thread and you'll find specific info there.

Be aware that ayahuasca is a way for indiginous people to make money off tourists + not everyone is legit!

Do you speak spanish or portugese?

This should be posted in gathering and travel, btw.

Try to find headhunters or cannibals to stay with. They are fine hosts.:monkeydance:

People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't
think that's what we're really seeking. I think what we're seeking is an
experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely
physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and
reality, so we can actually feel the rapture of being alive.:flowerchild:

Can you flirt with tribespeople? Do you think they go for one night stands? In their huts?

I have spent the last 8 years of my life thinking I had colon cancer. Last year I found out that it wasn't cancer and my doctor was an idiot. No one can figure out what it is. I am in constant pain, and I can't do any kind of strenuous activity(bedridden).

I seek a shamanic tribe in search for answers. My illness is not known to be fatal. But every day I feel the end is coming more and more soon than it should. I am in search of a sort of mental and spiritual enlightenment.

And I was in no way offended by your post. I actually used it for benefit. I thank you for your post.

Sounds like an emotional disorder. To be helped by a "shaman" you will have to have complete faith in his placebo cure. Even then it most likely will wear off.

Best to go down that scary rabbit hole and be your own shaman. (IMO)

Good luck.

My nephew had half of his intestines removed. Now he is a semi-colon. :rimshot:
