Holy Shrooms, I found the Mother Lode! Plz help me ID!
    #11164736 - 10/01/09 04:05 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I'll post suspected actives first as I get prints.

First one up:

Habitat - Nice grey Woodchips and grass, Eastside, Seattle area.

Stipe: White, very fragile. Breaks upon touch, no features visible.

Cap: Grey-blue, striate, very fragile with an irregular margin. A bit gelatinous, moist. Appears to be drying to a lighter greyish color. Has it deliquesed or is it just very mature?

Spore print: Black? purple-black? (cmon, you guys know I'm spore-color-handicapped until I get that microscope)

Gills: Not attached. Black toward lighter grey at the edges.

You found a mother lode of coprinoids. Inky caps. Let's call them Coprinopsis lagopus for now.

When I said mother lode, I was referring to the variety of species I'd found as well as the number, so there's tons more, I'm just trying to get decent prints.

So, that is deliquescence, as I'd suspected.

Thanks! You guys rock!

Numero Dos:

Habitat: Lawn grass under conifers.

Stipe: Tan to orange-brown, small fibrillose orange-brown patches. Meaty, tough and large, swelling towards the bottom. Breaks laterally when squeezed. Darkening from base to reddish-brown as it ages.

Cap: Hemispheric, brown and slimy when moist with incurved edges. Does not appear hygrophaous.

Gills: Subdecurrent, off-white to tan, not seperable, more like a pattern of raised lines on a darker brown surface than gills that extend to to the cap. I'm sure there's a latin word for it.

Spore print: Not obtained after several hours. Why can't I obtain a print from these?

Number C:

Habitat: Wood debris near park/wooded marsh area. Numerous and tiny.

Cap: Tiny, .5-1 cm, white with pretty sharp umbo, very neato cortinate partial veil. Kinda fuzzy, I guess you'd say fibrillose, but in more of a fuzzy bunny sort of way. One cap is darkening from umbo, not sure if it's from bruising.

Stipe: Small, white, moderately flexuose, no bruising observed.

Gills: White darkening to light tan as it dries, attached.

Print: I can't get a print out of these either. I'm still trying, I just sliced a couple in half. Any more suggestions?

I'm calling the first ones atramentaria, but I would like to see the pins.  :pirate:

The caps of C. atramentaria are too meaty. The ones we are looking at here look almost like Parasola. I doubt that they are C. atramentaria.

Awesome, my guess was Tapinella atrotomentosa, so I was at least in the ballpark! Getting better...

Your second mushrooms are probably too young to make a good print, be sure to use white and black paper or foil just in case they have white spores!

The fuzzy cortinate partial veils are neato, I'm going get more pics of these. I'm having trouble printing, they're so small and veiled.
