Why Canadas Festival Scene Sucks (in comparison)

Care to speculate?
I haven't been to other countries, but damn, you Americans know how to party. I love coming to festies south of the boarder - so many hippie kids and a wide variety of potent psychedelics ... lots of people with buses, parachute structures, costumes and instruments and topless woman with baskets of pot cookies and mushroom chocolates...
Its totally cause we don't have a Jam Scene up here, and thus no festival scene, and thus no hippies, really.
Its so different.
Sure, we have a couple sort of bigger outdoor rave festivals + We've got good cheap drugs, but ...
I find americans know more about RC's and can eat acid like candy compared with Canadians.
Americans have better and more creative approach to camp set up and costuming/playing than Canadians.... i find. In other words, they go all out and over here its just half assed.
Those of you South of the boarder don't know how good you have it having a psychedelic culture to immerse yourself in.
Thoughts?

definitely not much quality psychedelia here in western canada. eclipse festival is probably the only one we have with some quality atmosphere. definitely going to be checking that out next summer.

I've been thinking of moving to Canada in possibly 10 years or maybe even sooner if America gets shittier than it is now. Perhaps somewhere in Toronto. I visited the Niagara Falls a few years back and I completely enjoyed being in Canada. Beautiful girls and friendly people.
Plus hey, the healthcare system there seems better than US.

I must keep reminding myself of this.

Man its Canada, do you really think anything cultural is going to be remotely the same as the US? Canada has no effect on cultural movements as far as I can tell, the US, England, France, and some other European countries, Japan seem the dominant cultural powerhouses with the US pretty firmly on top

Truth.
The drugs in Canada are a little pricey at times but plentiful and potent. There are plenty of hippies in Canada, I think the cold/ever changing weather might have a big effect on that. Its no cali weather, and as far as camping and outdoors scene goes, well, I personally don't see why you would think having a costume/parachute structure for a camping/music scene would be of any use except a big hassle for yourself.
Check out some of the motorcycle club festivals and you might get a scene closer to what your thinking of (dress up and toys), but most certainly more violent and easier to start shit with.

The scene here is alright. But like somebody else said, Manitoba is seriously weak! All we got is Folk Fest.

Shambhala is probably the biggest fest of that type in BC. It's ridiculous though, $250 for a ticket.

OK, i was the thread starter and just came back to view the responses, i will reply 1 by 1:

You don't want to be an American.
Sure dont.

I am from BC - been going to Shambhala for years. The scene still sucks compared with whats going on in California. But i guess, what can you expect?
I think the thing is, Canada has folk fest type things for old people, and crazy rave parties for young people. No Jam scene ... i resonate more with kids who travel around going to festivals and checking out bands, more than people who go to 1 festival per year to get really fucked up. - there arn't enough festivals in Canada to "tour" them...

Nope you didn't read what i said. When i am at festivals in the states i see people eating 10 strips or more AT FESTIVALS. People in Canada are more likely to eat 10 ecstacies, 4 or 5 blotters would be considered alot at any parties ive been to here in Canada.
In my experience i've met "shroomery psychedelic drug geek types" alot more in America. They can handle their shit better.
Canada has lots of good drugs, no doubt. I just think your often more likely to find someone gummin' down molly before you see them dumping doses into their mouth + its not exactly like that in the US.

To explain, someone who puts alot of intention into their appearance/camp/etc is better vibes to be around, compared with a gangster in an RV.
Id like to hear back on others opinions who have been to festivals on the west coast in Canada and south of the boarder.
It's obvious - Since Americans have so many festivals to go to, they are better at it. It is more of their lifestyle...
I think that it is because of the temperature up here, winters are not conducive to being a hippie. I cannot think of any other reason why we do not have a jam band circuit and hoardes of hippies with good vibes...
an example: In America you will find hippies selling grilled cheeses or other festival food. In Canada you have a vendor selling overpriced hamburgers or falafels. You know?
Oh well - i am always happy to head south of the boarder, because there are plenty of cheap tacos.
My pilgrimage route has always been to Shambhala, but now it is symbiosis + burning man and in the future i would like it to include lightening in a bottle.

If you are looking for those folks who go all out, and I mean all-the-freakin-way-out, then Burning Man or any of the smaller regional burns is the place to look. I attended my first burn this year (Transformus) and it was a completely life changing experience. These people were not just acting out in a cathartic partying environment, this was a creative, free-flowing expression of joy that was a lifestyle for many of these people. So much positive energy and none of the shadiness that comes with the larger festivals such as Bonnaroo. Burners rock!

I think you just need to look harder man. I live in Toronto, and between Ontario and Quebec I can have a nice and full summer of festivals.
It's not all year round but during the warm months they are everywhere. They just may not be as large and established as ones in the US, but I prefer that. There are many festivals with under 1000ppl if you keep your head up and in the scene- and they are always full of psychedelics and hippy types.
I would agree with the jam band scene not being present though. Most of the music festivals focus on electronic music: psytrance, dubstep, progressive, and more.
But still.. NEVER say Canada is boring. We are just a huge country with a small amount of people, so everything is spread out. But it is most definitely out there.

Also, Shivas.wisdom, i agree Canada isn't boring. I still think the scenes are different though, but i am going to start trying to check out some small festivals in other places around Canada...
Do you have any you recommend local to you?

Yea man, I myself am still finding new ones but I'll give you a list of ones I can definitely recommend- especially if you are a fan of psytrance and psychedelics.
From largest to smallest: Eclipse Festival: http://www.eclipsefestival.com/#/home Harvest Festival: http://www.harvestfestival.org/ OM Festival: http://www.omreunionproject.org/ Mooseman: http://burnon.ca/ Boreal Canoe Trip: http://alieninflux.com/boreal
I plan to be at all 5 next year. All are very much worth checking out. And then going to these will allow you to meet people and discover even more festivals and parties.
