Built to Spill's new album
    #11164313 - 10/01/09 04:48 PM (8 years, 24 days ago)

New album streaming on their Myspace.
http://www.myspace.com/builttospill

This is one of those bands that everyone listens to, but I never really have for whatever reason. I got into the game late I guess.
This sounds alright. They're playing here tonight and I hear they're good live so I might go check it out if I can find someone to go with.

Meh, I went. Wouldn't pay to see them again.
There were one or two real good songs, a bunch of mediocre songs, and the last song of the encore was drawn out and boring (relative to the rest of their music.)
I'll check out some albums though. Good music, just nothing special as a live act.

Aw man, I love BTS live. I'm seeing them five times in a couple of weeks. Yes, you read that right - I'm seeing them five times in a couple of weeks.

Haha I saw they had five dates in NYC, but going to all five is a bit obscene.

The show was cheaper than I expected, and less people were there than I anticipated. Maybe they're not as big as I thought.

They got 4 in NYC, and one in DC. I'm visiting my sister in DC to catch the fifth.

BTS fans are old and don't go to shows anymore, they don't attract many new younger ones unfortunately.

This hasn't leaked at all, but I think I am actually going to buy it.

They just strike a perfect balance between epic guitar driven rock music and identifiable, intelligent, bashful, and clever indie-garage rock/whatever.

I'm going to try to see them in DC this month, I gotta buy my ticket soon.

I caught them at Maxwell's in Hoboken doing a tune-up show back in July, before this bigger tour. It was very raw and loose and amazing. They played two songs that, despite having seen them eight or nine times before, I'd never heard live - Virginia Reel Around the Fountain and my favorite jam of theirs, Broken Chairs.  It was epic, tiny room, 300 people maybe. So good.

Actually, there's a leak on what.cd. Hit within a few hours ago.
Want me to grab it and upload it? I'm gonna grab it later tonight anyway.

OMR: Yeah, I noticed I was one of the few people my age, and it was at one of the venues that's right in the middle of the campus area.

They used to sell out 4 nights at Irving Plaza well in advance of the shows with no problem as recently as 2-3 years ago. Irving holds 1200 people.  This year they're doing 2 nights at Webster Hall (1400 capacity) followed by two nights at Music Hall of Williamsburg (600 capacity.)  Neither Webster show has sold out and only one of the MHoW shows has sold out. Weird.

Incidentally I once saw them 4 nights in a row at Irving and each night they did a 20 minute long cover of Cortez the Killer and I did not mind one bit.

I love the Live CD cortez, but in the three times I've seen them the closest thing was people yelling for it.

I'm listening to these songs on myspace, initially, I don't see this competing for favorite album, but I'm sure it will grow.

I don't get bored by the mellower sounds, I bet the tones and ambiance of these slower songs is wonderful live.

My point of obsession has been this 30 second clip on Youtube of them outro-ing out of another song with a toned-out, layered version of the solo at the end of "edit the sad parts" by Modest Mouse. One of my favorite songs and favorite guitar sounds.
All I want is to see them do their own expanded version of that song live. Damn.
