San Pedro Recipe
    #11164269 - 10/01/09 04:37 PM (8 years, 24 days ago)

So I have obtained some San Pedro cuttings which I intend to consume this weekend. I have 18" total which will be split between myself and my fiancee. We will set aside an entire day (or at least as much of one as we can) for the experience.

My question is this: I have a strong stomach and I am willing to eat/smoke/drink anything regardless of taste. My original plan was to make some cactus tea and just drink it that way. However, I am seriously worried about my fiancee being able to keep the tea down because she is very sensitive when it comes to tastes and textures. I saw a recipe on erowid that called for a 'crudo' preparation with sliced cactus in olive oil, lime juice and salt. I'm thinking this may now be the way to go to try to avoid any issues with the snot-like texture common in pedro tea. Any suggestions or ideas of how to get rid of the bitterness or reduce the amount of cactus to be consumed (volume wise) would be greatly appreciated. Obviously before Saturday. Thanks!

There was a king that always felt too high and then he fell too low
And so he called all the wise men to the hall
And begged them for a gift to end the rises and the falls
But here’s the thing, they came back with a ring
It was simple and was plainly unbefitting of a king
Engraved in black, it had no front or back
But there were words around the band that said
Just know: This Too Shall Pass

Thanks I think?

Nobody's cooked San Pedro before? I find that hard to believe.

I have no experience with cooking T. pachanoi, but maybe these links will help (or you've seen them already):

http://www.lycaeum.org/~sputnik/Drugs/Mescaline/SanPedroPrep.html

http://www.a1b2c3.com/drugs/mes05.htm

There were more hits that came up when I searched "cook pachanoi" or ""olive oil" pachanoi".  I also don't frequent Other Drugs Discussion, but they might have a lot more to say than the people in this forum which doesn't get much traffic.

Yes I have looked those over before. The "crudites" recipe is what I'm making now. Wish me luck.

I cut it into strips and dunk them in olive oil and vinegar, then sprinkle with salt and pepper. I've tried the tea before, it greatly reduces the volume, but it is much harder to get down. The next tim I take some I'll be going back to my oil and vinegar method.

Okay so it was a complete and utter fail. I spent like an hour and a half skinning and de-spining all my cactus. I covered the green flesh in a liberal amount of sea salt and lime juice. I was able to get through about half of my dose before it started getting too hard to chew... then by the time I was 3/4 of the way through my dose I just couldn't stomach it any more and started gagging. I ended up getting mild effects, but definitely nothing to write home about because I couldn't bring myself to eat it all.

I think this recipe is not good, maybe next time I will try a method that involves either extraction or cooking, as the cactus flesh itself has a very unpleasant texture.
