Straight verm casings sometimes have a tendency to dry out, and its hard to tell when verm is dry.  I've only cased with straigh verm once, and it isn't coicidental that I've only done it once.

I like 50/50+ mix, but I still haven't gotten my hands on any coir, and I've heard nothing but good from people who use it.

Here's a link for 50/50+, I'd recommend it:

ive read that you can sterylize vermiculite by adding water and then cooking it in the oven at 300 degrees for 30 mins. i've also read the it can be difficult to tell the moisture content of vermicultite from appearance alone.

Add some coco coir to the verm.
Coco coir is easy to see when it is dry.
So it is a good indicator for when to mist the casing
