Green Gills. Hunting next to a Police Station
    #11163251 - 10/01/09 01:16 PM (8 years, 24 days ago)

1st very sorry, no pics, i think camera FINALLY died all together. Might be able to provide crappy cel phone pics later

We found these and some medium sized brown ones right outside a police station. The brown ones were on the grass. Too hard to ID without pic I think, the general description for most LBM's applies so yeah.

HOWEVER this green gilled ones

Habitat:
Right next to a police station around some sort of water tome a few feet away from a street, growing on heavy packed mud o_O

Gills:
Light mint green. greyish. Like this green -> :peace:
Not attached, in fact the mushroom has like a 5mm space between where the stem is attached to the cap before the gills start and they "bubbled" out.

Stem:
2inches off-white, there were others but all around the same size(could only pick 3 of them, was in a big rush to get the hell out of there)

Cap:
3 1/2 diameter, white with few speks of brownish-grey color around the middle. Feels very smooth and velvety, like soft skin, never touched a mushroom that felt like that before.
I also found it different that the cap was kinda wrapped around the edges of the gills. As in, if I turn the mushroom upside down I can see like 3mm of the cap all around the edge kinda on top of the gills

Spore print color:
I tried 1/2 on foil and 1/2 on regular copy paper. The print on the foil was light mint green (a lot less grey than the gills) the one on the copy paper looked brownish with very little green

Other information:
Although it was right next to a street and there for I dont think I would like to eat em, they smell REALLY good.
Mossy eathy yummy mushroom smell

And if its any help at all, this is my crappy 5sec Ms paint rendition of it. LOL

Chlorophyllum molybdites:...Poisonous ...it wont kill you, but it will sure make you wish you were...dont eat it, stay away from the Amanita sp in general...you need to learn easier actives before going after Amanitas

No, its chlorophyllum. Common around police stations, and lawns of donut shops/factory's.

I really wish I had a working camera to ID those brown ones there were LOTS of them all around that station.
I was very nervous though, although I know they cant tell me anything for picking up random non-active mushrooms, its still unpleasant to deal with "police cops"

Yes, Chlorophyllum molybdites. It's actually known by the nickname "green gills" so you gave it away with that.

People usually get sick when they misidentify it as the edible Chlorophyllum rhacodes.

Lol i dont know what that means. Chlorophyllum molydbites is in the geuns chlorophyllum. Its referred to as a parasol (lepiota) so i think its closely related to them. Dont know where amanita came from though.

Paul Stamets once found 10,000 Stuntzii across the street from a police station in the UW district before they were even named (after Prof. Daniel Stuntz).

He says it was the biggest fruiting of actives (or maybe even mushrooms) he has ever seen to this day....
