where were you when 9/11 happened?

okay, i know this thread is a bit late...but here goes

people always say "i will never forget when 9/11 happened", emphasizing the experience. their surroundings and external enviroment, seeing it on t.v for the first time, the reaction of those around you.... ill share my story and you guys can share yours.

i was young and dumb. 14 years of age. i was in a math class when the teacher said "a plane just flew into the world trade center, thats so wierd..." she shrugged it off... living in my own little bubble, i didn't really care or see it as significant, i assumed it was some dumb pilot who just flew his plane into some random building... just another wacky news event in this wacky world i thought....

the next thing i know, apparently the second tower had gone down...the class-room next door was occupied by a vietnam-veteran world history professor, i don't know if he had a degree or how he got the job - it was a private school so maybe they just hired him for the hell of it.

so the next thing i know this burley vietnam-veteran who is a teacher at my school is literally kicks down the door of my math classroom.... he is wearing a helmet of some sort, holding his antique axe and screams "IT'S HAPPENING! THE BUILDINGS ARE DOWN IT"S HAPPENING!"

...wow.... soon after we are all scurried out of the class rooms and sent home, we are told that we are sent home because of a threat to national security, although i was kind of happy i got to go home (still un-aware of how big of a deal it was) also i knew that we got sent home for no real reason and that planes were not just going to magically appear over my school with bombs in the middle of a random concrete suburbian jungle with no points of significant interest.... in a sick way i even played with idea in my head of planes flying overhead

i went home and the first thing i had to do was see the footage, it was still being replayed on t.v - i watched it a few times, got board of watching it...next day i was still thinking a lot about and looked at many gruesome photos in time magazine to satisfty my morbid curiosity.... the rest is all kind of a blur, all i know is that i some how go to where i am today...

I was in 8th grade. they were trying to keep it hush hush so the kids wouldn't freak out. we went home early and I fell asleep watching the news.

I was in fifth grade. I saw the first plane hit on tv just before the bus came.

My parents picked me up out of fear of everything a few hours later.

I was in NC drinking coffee while getting ready to go to work. I never did make it to work that day, at all.

was waking up to go to school watched the second plane hit the tower and went to school. Smoked some weed because I knew what was going to happen tot his country. Bush......

4th period AP English junior year of hs

principal came over the p.a. saying it happened, teacher turned on the tv, second tower fell, we watched the coverage in almost every class the rest of the day, everyone was shocked/angry

that's pretty much how it went down

i think i was a senior in HS in NYC

The seriousness of it didnt hit me at all until I saw video of the jumpers, even after it had been declared a terrorist attack, it just didn't seem real to me, at all. The thing that seemed weird to me, was that somehow my teacher already knew they were gonna say it was osama bin laden, before they said it. I had never even heard of the guy. and even more suspicious is that that was the ONLY fucking thing on tv for months it seemed like,...like god damn...who won the saints game?
instantly everybody was a patriot who hated camel jockeys

so yeah, i was there, close enough. My friend couldn't get in touch with his mom who worked in the WTC because of the downed cell tower, but she was fine. We could see the smoke when we went out for lunch break, and in the morning my neighborhood was filled with dust. When I got out of school I got to see thousands of people walking across the queensborough bridge

The one thing that got me about all that, was seeing the thousands and thousands of missing persons flyers. I did a little volunteer work at a red cross nearby the site

i was in 9th grade art class at a small school in rural pennsylvania. i honestly thought nothing of it until i went home and say newsreels and the ultimate destruction that those actions have since created.

its actually interesting. im taking a world politics class and in terms of historical political era we are living in the  "post-post cold war era" which is often referred to as the "post 9-11 era".

most eras have ended (save the cold war) by multipolar wars between superpowers, and we've yet to see an end to our current era. it makes me wonder if a true world war is on its way, or, if like the cold war, we can be saved by nuclear nonproliferation and the integration of rogue nations into international commerce.

i was in 8th grade history. we got out a couple hours early. we lived on a military base in jacksonville. there were guards walkin around with m16s out
