I think Classical/Flamenco and/or Jazz lessons hands down will give you the best understanding of the most efficient way to approach the manual labor it takes to play the instrument (I.E. Technique)
However it won't teach you how to write a good song, won't teach you how to innovate (In fact I kind of think of classical as the total inverse of innovation) won't teach you how to write songs people will like (Thin Ramones, Danzig...even the simler to play Beatles tunes)
I'd say the best direction is to take is a combination of lessons and playing how you want to play. Having fun. Making Music. Making a song from scratch. No one can REALLY teach you how to do that. I have met guitarists with nearly PERFECT technique and a mind full of flawless music theory who have been playing for over 30 years...and have never written a song. If you have written even ONE song, you are "a-head" of them in some ways.
Continue to write, play and learn, but I think the best discoveries come from being in the fun.

i learned a bunch of basic scales and chords, and now i just come up with riffs and licks all the time and throw them together to improvise - it's great.

Same here! I mean I do study music theory, both by reading and observation...but honestly I think advice I read from Jerry Garcia was the bestest. He said something like this:
"I'm only concerned with playing music that'll be fun the 100th time I play, whether it be simple or comlex" Something like, or that;s what I got out from it.

Never heard that quote, I like the quotes from major guitarists, especially the one "at first you'll hate guitar, but you need to stick with it" which Hendrix said. music theory gives me a headache, but I do have a book on it that I read as mucha s I can.

who said anything about classical guitar? the OP, playing one in his video
by the way, the technique I am emphasizing about classical guitar really has very little to do with theory, it has to do with physics and self-awareness, beauty of tone, economy of energy, etc
but when it comes to theory and general and the guitar...
I LOATHE music theory classes...I've also had some guitar teachers that weren't very good at all, but when you get a really good teacher, all the theory comes into perspective, and it's like OOOOHHHHHHH, this all makes so much sense now. I don't know how to elaborate, I'm sick and out of it...
but do yourself a favor and learn the CAGED system...it makes guitar playing so much easier to understand. All chords and scales can be found easily using the CAGED system. Instead of having to memorize a million different patterns, you just learn a few, and see how each chord and scale is just an alteration of those few. This is extremely helpful with scales, because you begin to see how, with a few exceptions, it's all the same scale, just starting on a different note, (and still using the CAGED system to make it easy...meaning play scales with your hand in one position based on a chord pattern) so you basically just get to know the one scale really well across the fret board (starting in different positions) and then you can play pretty much anything, in tons of different flavors
sorry for bad description i'm sick and dont feel good

If you're into Hendrixy blues, you should start using your thumb if you already don't.
That's part of how he got that sound as I'm sure you know, the thumb keeping the E down, acting as a bass note while his fingers can keep going.
I started using my thumb at the start but the only downside is I now find it hard to play normally. My thumb usually just ends up hanging over.
