Millet doesn't colonize faster because of nutritional values, it colonizes faster because you can shake it up (when its in seed form). I've never used millet flour, or heard of anyone using it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Uhhh besides the fact that you have millet flour why wouldent you just use millet seed? I suppose it would work and mabey even better due to millet has a higher nutritional value than brf. But then again why not just use millet seed?

I don't know the properties of millet flour, I don't know its consistencies in cake form, but I'll assume that once colonized, it will stay in cake form.  There's only one way to find out, try it.

Now I just started millet, but it seems to stick together well enough to hold together. Although it does stick together it doesn't seem to be that resilient to jogging, and therefore may not be good for cakes. I am trying this out b/c I have a hydra-pod and wanted to see if it will work.

I've never done it, I think I remember reading some growlogs that have done it though, but why, its like using a 55 foot charter boat for bass fishing in a lake, it'll work, but you could do so much more.  The great thing about millet is if you spawn it you get so many inoc points (166 kernels per gram, according to TMC).  The more inoculation points, the faster the colonization of the spawn.  Do you get where I'm going with this?  :smirk:

Why use millet cakes??
It really makes no sence.
For pf style cakes rather stick to brf/verm.
If you`re sick of Brf/verm then you should have moved to grain based casings by now.

Yes they would grow, but I've heard (never tried it, I use my birdseed to spawn poo with) that birdseed has a tendency to dry out easily, but I could be wrong.

First off, and this is not meant to be condescending, but have you grown using the PF tek? If yes, cool, go for it, if not, I'd recommend that you try the PF tek first.

After inoculation, I let them sit until they are 5-10% colonized, shake, let them recover and wait until around 50% and shake. And I shake whenever growth seems to stall.

In reply to:

I just started with the PF tek. Everything is going perfect so far. I just wanted to grow more potent mushrooms. I'm still going to try it. It's always worth a try even if I fail.

I like that attitude, but man, you gotta learn to walk before you can run. Doing grain is not very hard at all, but its a lot easier if you understand how to do the PF tek, and have done it, and succeeded. But best of luck to you.

Dark rye is the fastest colonizer in my trials....I use it exclusively now. A tad less water in the PF tek recipe
