Rickenella fibula * 1
    #11159893 - 09/30/09 10:14 PM (8 years, 18 days ago)

Rickenella fibula (moss agaric) is listed as hallucinogenic in state statutes of illegal drugs, as well as a few sources on the internet.  Other sources contradict this.

My experience with this mushroom consists of having been given some dried specimens by--i shit you not--a Slovakian nomad who I met on a bus.  This gentleman said he could find specific mushrooms by the smell they gave off in the forest.

Now, I only had a pinch of these mushrooms, and it may have been the placebo effect, but I did feel altered.

Later, I collected some near my home and consumed them; again, mild effects, maybe placebo, but I had much less than a gram.

My question is this: is there a consensus on the Rickenella fibula?  Are they potent?

This seems to be the only truly easy to find potential psychotropic mushroom in my area.  Though they're small, this may make them worth collecting.

So nobody knows anything about the Rickenella fibula?

My backyard is covered in Rickenella fibula.

The paper which reported no psilocybin was found in R. fibula also says that none as found in G. spectabilis.

G. spectabilis is definitely active so maybe there's some truth to the fibulas.

I've never seen a Rickenella show any bluing though.

Curious as to what led you to contemplate if it was psychoactive?

The last time I remember someone posting this exactly the same story here on the Shroomery, it turned into a tremendous bashing. Of whom and why, I don't remember. This was a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I'm not aware of any experiences with this mushroom. I do notice that either this species is extremely variable in its macroscopic appearance, or people find random small mushrooms growing on moss and just call them r. fibula and be done with it.

Some G. spectabilis aren't active though. It depends on location.
