For Begginers!!!!!!!!
    #11158811 - 09/30/09 07:48 PM (8 years, 24 days ago)

All beginners should start with the normal "cake" Substrate! Anything else should be for anyone else who have already grown! If u wanna try something different then try it on ur next try!

yea first thing i did was wbs then i moved on to rye grains.I have never done a cake since yield is pitiful and take to long to colonize and are hard to break up to spawn.

your dead right.  i skipped the cakes and went to wbs and bulk sub with no problem.  Dont tell noobs to do cakes first. Its not how new you are, but wether how much you learn before starting...

Never done a cake in my life.

WBS FTW!

zero contams first time.

I couldnt find verm locally, and that is what prompted me to the WBS + coir for my first grow.

I have never done cakes either, straight to rye and havent looked back yet, I figured if you get good at the hard shit first then your golden....right? As long as you read about the right things and have common sense, its just as easy to follow the grain teks as it is to read the PF tek...

I enjoyed the PF cake process the first time around. It provided some valuable skills. It teaches patience, it's forgiving and will reward after many mistakes, and let's beginners get an extremely hands out approach that can be observed more closely than a monotub. It's a whole lot cheaper to start too.

With that said, if you really just want to learn how to grow them faster and more efficiently, then just go bulk from the start. Either or is a good way.
