Re: Amount of Psilocybin in differently aged P. semilanceata [Re: koraks]

Wouldn't 40 shrooms be about 15mg and 80 about 31mg ?

The average weight/shroom is 40mg (40mg is from the data given above, and my own measurements from Swedish libs is about 41mg so I find this average weight good enough), and the average psilocybin content is 0,96%.

(40 * 0,0096)* 40 = 15,36mg psilocybin

I'm not a math genius btw..

So, would this not mean that the more the specimen has been exposed to the elements, the lower the percent of active alkaloids.?

If you read carefully, you'll see that the analysis on the Christiansen et al. paper is based on dehydrated weight.

I know my post was a bit long and perhaps tedious, but please note how I arrived at those numbers and the underlying conclusion: I tried to find a trend line in your graph and that trend line appears to correspond with a psilocybin content of 0.24mg per specimen, regardless of weight. See, that's the interesting thing in your graph: it suggests that the psilocybin content of these mushrooms is constant in an absolute sense.

Your calculation is not wrong; it's just a different approach to the same problem. But it doesn't take into account the interesting relationship that I spot in your graph.
