Possible Puffball-help please

Habitat: In the grass on a baseball field surrounded by alder woodchips
Fungus description: It's a little creamy-white to light brown ball when cut in half resembles a marshmallow feel. It's all white on the inside; this mushroom lacks gills or any trait of button-stage amanitas.
Bruising: No bruising
Other information: There's a little root coming off the bottom of the puffball. I believe it's called a rhizomorph. You can view it in my posted pictures.

Is this one I can eat? Are there other traits I should describe to get a proper ID?
Sorry if this seems n00bish, I just don't want to consume anything from the ground until it's IDed by a knowledgeable person.

Yeah, wait for a confirm from a Trusted Identifier to be sure, and then make sure that ALL the Trusted ID'ers agree. That's a good way to go about it. And all the info required should have popped up when you clicked "ID Request" when making the thread. Your missing things like size and whatnot. No biggie. Happy hunting.

Well it's about a 1/2 inch in diameter. Scleroderma, huh? I'm curious to know why you would suspect Scleroderma when it lacks a black inside. I don't want to seem condescending, I just want to expand my knowledge.

It's white on the inside because it is immature. As it gets older and the spores develop, it will become black/charcoal on the inside.

Maybe the spores haven't matured. Or maybe my assumption is wrong and they're some tiny Calvatia I don't know about.
Sorry if I'm steering you wrong. Maybe someone else can help you.

So I'll go out tomorrow and look for a mature specimen. Are these Scleroderma generally toxic?

Okay, thanks for all the help. Now when I look for these mature fruits, what general size am I looking for?

That would depend on what species you have, or genus for that matter. I'd just go back in a day or two and cut one open.

Are you in the PNW? I've found quite a few of these recently too, but haven't gotten to IDing them yet. So far, they all look like what you have there. I haven't seen any larger or any with anything but white puff inside.
