thats tough, I like all the songs by Tool so unfortunatly I can't do your poll. Though I'm leaning pretty close to grudge and patient. But then undertow, or AEnema, I can't decide XD

you know, it seems that a lot of the mainstream culture really relates to Schism as opposed to any of their other songs.
i think the reasons are:
A) it gets a fair amount of radio play and B) emotionally, that song has a strong strong backbone to it. maynards voice and the instrumental textures created in that song can really strike a heart-felt chord (specifically the "cold silence..." part). kind of an unexplainable thing, more of an intuition...but who knows, i am probably just talking out of my but

I never understood that. Watch the audience when they play it live and the movement of the crowd dies. It's near impossible to figure out the time of that song, and most people are turned off by that kinda shit.

The grudge/the patient just barely edging out stinkfist/eulogy. This would not be the case, however, if eon blue apocalypse was not placed in the mix as that song(or "segue" as some would say) is absolutely essential in forming the harmonious dynamic element characerized by the opening of Lateralus, even though both the grudge and the patient are excellent songs in themselves. I personally find eon blue to be an incredibly beautiful and visually evocative song despite its simplicity and short length, and is certainly not to be overlooked.

Yeah,the silence the grudge/the patient brake is something magical.It just has that special "it" over any of the other songs.
