Gymnopilus sp.

Habitat: Wood - Found in deciduous woods, growing at the base of dead, standing tree.

Gills: Orange

Stem: Orange, solid, 6-9mm diameter.

Cap: Orange, smooth, 20-50mm in diameter.

Spore print color: pending.

Bruising: Dark brown/green towards base of stem.

Location: Northern Japan

Taste: Mildly bitter(nibble test)

I think everyone is pretty much in agreement.

I guess its active since you saw greenish stains.

Now that I look closer the cap texture and the way it is drying seems wrong for Gymnopilus.  Stem color and texture seems off too.  What color spore print did it drop?  Maybe its closer to Pholiota.

Should gymnopilus spectabilis be dark orange/brown?

Sore print still in process, but it's looking light brown/orange.
