Going hunting again now. If anyone has any info on my 2nd set of pics, that'd be great... along with the chemical make up of gyms.

I wish i knew the chemical makeup - i say they are a "factory" because i've heard, read, and i also believe the gyms contain unidentified trace alkaloids similar to psilocybin and psilocyn. When you try it you will know what i mean - you will know there is something else than psilocybin, psilocyn making your gym experience pleasurable- Pleasurable is the best way i can describe their effects - its a eathy mellow trip - but makes you feel like true ecstacy - while also making you grin like a mo fo!! Their bitter taste and spicy smell shows me they have some special chems inside not normally found in cubies! - Gyms are awesome!! Don't be shy - just be sure of your finds and TRY!! -
-professionals don't seem to want to macroscopically id gyms because the overall work on the species in writing is very inconsistant and unreliable! -
-i would love to see a chemical breakdown of what could be found in my collections aswell but untill more people become facinated with gyms- i think i will stick to having fun hunting for them, and documenting my collections!!
Great finds again Sojourn

Good words, wiscokid. I'd agree with all of it except the motivation behind professional mycologists unwillingness to flesh out the genus. Hesler's work is pretty good unless you try to shoehorn his divisions into a genetic framework. Then it becomes more of a problem of taxonomic issues, Friesian concepts versus gene sequencing. All tools are good when you know how to use them.

Thanks guys. I'll see what reading I can find
So you guys agree my second finds are also gyms? The spore print was orange. Just making 100% sure there's no possibility of deadly gals (the NON-human variety of deadly gals ). To me, gyms are so distinct, though I don't know if these are BLG's or another Gym.
Kept them in very cool temps and no blue/green bruising--only the dark reds/blacks. I'll post a pic of them when fully dry.
I feel like I'm nagging with all these questions, but I appreciate all the info.

99% of the time deadly gals would not be growing in super thick clusters in that kind of location - - - - you've got some BLG's bro - post up the dried pics - and we can compare to mine!!
Jah!!

This looks more like the gym I found growing at the base of a telephone pole one time that reeked like dead animal.

Looks like G. sapineus to me. Some sources say it's active. I am guessing the dead animal smell comes from the telephone pole's creosote. The odor is strong but I never heard it described that way.

Alright.
Though Wisco these are a new set from a different spot--inside the woods. The others are wilting in the rain.
Maybe dead animal is an exaggeration. I think there was bacteria on it too.
No luck today maybe tomorrow. Peace.

Wow, thanks so much man.
Still, it's sobering--I can see someone a little too eager thinking they were a type of gym.

Forsure - i think thats just how we know Deadly gals are infact DEADLY!!
Think of all the poor souls who by lack of info/knowledge - or misidentified collections - consumed the galerinas A SALUTE TO ALL FALLEN MUSH SOLDIERS!! They made it safe for you and I!! -

Haha, nice one. I was in Iceland for less than 10 days, and I experienced very noticeable "culture shock" upon my return to the states. I'd love to go back.

I've heard Iceland is one of the best places to live on the planet as far as quality of living goes.
My only beef with them is that they still whale hunt despite the fact that they've signed international no-whaling treaties.
