I won 2 tickets to a private screening with the Preston and Steve morning radio show today! To be honest, I didn't even know what this movie was until after I called in and won the tickets. Then I started watching the trailers and I think it's going to be hilarious. You guys should check out the Preston and Steve show, they're really funny dudes... It's based out of Philly but it's not area specific; anyone can enjoy it. They podcast and play over the internet too.

I agree to you up to a point... Zombie movies themselves have been overdone to the point where you couldn't squeeze a non-straight-to-rental DVD out if you wanted to.
HOWEVER
This movie seems to be the best out of the zombie-genre since "Saun of the Dead" was released. Which is to say, I'm smiling as I look forward to busting a stitch as I watch this flick

I like how zombie flicks are starting to lean toward the funnier side. The horror and terror side as been done to death (hardy harr harr) so it's a breath of fresh air.
I predict the next breed of zombie flicks to be dramas. Like zombies falling in love and dying of cancer and whatnot.

Holy FUCKING SHIT. This movie was the best I've seen in a looong time. It was so god damn funny. I need some time to organize my thoughts so bear with me, but I highly recommend it. I even won a complimentary bottle of Zombieland Purell!

This movie was a breath of fresh air as far as zombie movies go. Forgive me, I don't know all the actors names so I'm referring to them by age.
Minor Spoilers ahead, don't be afraid to read:
It starts off explaining different rules the main character has for survival.
Rule #1: Cardio All the fatties in the world died first.
Rule #2: Always do a double take. (i.e. shoot em twice if you're unsure if they're dead.
Rule #3: Always wear a seatbelt.
Rule #4: Always check the back seat.
It continues to explain what happened and gives brief excerpts from his life how he got where he is. The movie presents all these situations where you think he's going to get fucked up but he doesn't because he's smart and follows his set of rules. It shows clear examples for all rules, which I won't spoil. It's comedic the entire way, a lot funnier than Shaun of the Dead IMHO. The characters basically work their way to an amusement park on the west coast where they believe is zombie-free. Once they get to the amusement park it's just fucking genius. They utilize so many different rides and theme park attractions in such creative ways, it's really entertaining. A funny meme in the movie is the "Zombie kill of the week". Another thing, which is big to me, is that the Zombies SPRINT, they don't run or walk, they fuckin' BOOK IT. Also, there are no cheap thrills. Too many thrillers these days utilize loud music and quick actions to scare people with shit they'll never see again in the movie. This isn't the case with Zombieland. No cheap thrills, all action and comedy. You can sit back and enjoy this movie without worrying about some random loud sound and cheap effect.
Major spoiler: (but still won't ruin the movie for you because you'll STILL piss your pants when you see it)
On their way to the amusement park they run into Bill Murray's mansion in Hollywood. They break in and start making themselves at home. The younger guy find his home theater and starts showing Ghostbusters to the little girl in the movie (who's very sheltered as far as cult classics go. Bill Murray (as himself) comes in and it only shows a back view, and he's acting like a zombie. It finally shows him and they end up starting to beat on him and he freaks out and explains he's just using make up his make up guy taught him how to put on and he's still human. So he asks what they wanna do and the next scene opens with the top of a hookah STUFFED with marijuana. They all get high then dress up in ghostbusters shit and start acting out scenes. It's fucking hilarious. Then the older main character thinks it'd be a good idea to scare the little girl that's with them and so Murray puts his wig and makeup back on and starts staggering in and they freak out and shoot him in the chest with a shotgun, killing him. I died.
I loved each character; they were really well established and the movie progressed really smoothly, there weren't any awkward transitions or anything like that. The older character was fucking HILARIOUS. Definitely the badass dude, but really dumb sounding. He definitely kicked a lot of ass. I'm glad they didn't make him a total rambo.
In all, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It wasn't like your average Zombie movie, even compared to the funny ones. I'll probably go back to see it again, and I'm one that RARELY pays to see movies anymore.. EVERYONE in the theater laughed at the same time, clapped, whistled, yelled... it was an experience I usually don't get in regular movie screenings. The Preston and Steve show really brings the best people to these events. I was impressed with this movie, even the people I was with, which was a friend I've had since 5th grade (I'm 23) and the rest all Preston and Steve fans that won passes to this private screening. No assholes, no rude people, just 1.5 hours of a lot of fun.
GO. SEE. THIS. MOVIE.
