My fingers hurt.

Just wondering. Any tips tricks or hints for cleaning mushies?

Ive been cleaning for 2 1/2 hours and i'm  beat.

Also, I dont think i'll make it to all of them before bed> Is it safe to leave a stack of shrooms with casing/substrate attached for 24 hours? Should i stick it in the fridge?

i let them dry then i put em i a bag and tap it for a while. the majority settles to the bottom.

grab mush in one hand- take a paper towel in the other- use the texture of the paper towel to peel off the outermost layer of myc-skin downward- towards and around the dirty base. usually comes off pretty smoothly and leaves a nice looking product behind, and dont worry about the weight lost- it should be no biggie.

they clean a lot easier dry, also i will point out they're is no real need to clean them at all. Just lay them out in front of a fan and wait for evaporation to do it's thing, then just knock the dirt off with youre fingers when theyre dry.

I use sharp knife and lighty scrape downwards. There are just way too many shrooms. Im dying.

Im actually surprised no one complains about this more.

when it is cracker dry you can rub off the casing/substrate material easily.

when using the method of cleaning i described above during a decent harvest, i acquire about a full quart of mushroom butts per 10gal tub-these get balled up and go into a plastic shopping bag which gets tied shut- poke a few holes with a knife and let sit on the back porch or back yard and they spring up another quarterOZ dry- usually short and fat because they are so constricted but they are nice and dense.

1. Get them cracker dry.

2. Lightly scrape off the unwanted material with a knife.

That's all there is too it.

I cleaned 4 ounces this way in about 15 minutes. Don't even bother trying to get all that junk off while they are wet.

but as posted above, just let the shrooms dry with whatever casing or substrate thats one them, if they're cracker dry, you can snap the dirty part of the stems off with very minimal loss

This topic comes up a lot and i rarely join the discussion, but I really advocate for cleaning before drying.  As soon as I pick/harvest any mushrooms I cut the base of the stipe off; I use a jumbo size X-acto knife with a scalpel style blade usually (X-acto makes various styles of blades for their different sized handles, Awesome).  Large specimens take a couple cuts and come out with a pointed stipe, like a tree cut down with an axe.  Yeah, sweet.

I think a lot of folks here think that that method wastes a little edible material and that's true, however, if you're spending more than 45 minutes cleaning you're shrooms than step-up and waste a few grams to make the harvesting/"cleaning" go quicker.  You're a cultivator now, it's okay.  This always reminds me of something this guy said here before:

It all depends what you are going for. If you have that many shrooms, cutting off the bottoms could ad up to a decent amount of weight. If that matters to you.

If you want to keep the whole thing, dry first, then clean.

fan dry for 12-16 hrs.  then take a tooth brush to brush sub and or verm off of the bottom. then i put them in desiccant chamber.

Pinch the ends of the fresh fruits,  this will clean 90% of it.  Then dry them and the rest will come off easy.
