Trimetes Versicolor?
    #11143058 - 09/28/09 11:37 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Found what i believe to be a nice patch of turkey tails.  Gona make some tea, im almost 100% sure, and they dont have that nasty mold all over them and they smell wonderful. Just could use some trusted ID help to reassure me. Thanks

I'm not a TI, but they seem right to me.

Happy Hunting! :headbanger:

Yeah, turkey tails, trametes versicolor or something close. There are no poisonous polypores, so you're safe in any case. I understand they taste pretty bad though

Yea, i just chewed on one like you would tobbacco. the taste was very strong mushroom flavor.  But i heard they have some very good medicinal aspects.  I could just chop them up very fine boil them and then mix the water in with green tea and load up on sugar.  =D

Yes, in Asia they've been used for thousands of years. Apparently, they have some anti-cancerous action. I don't know the details though.

I was very happy to find a good 4 foot long by 6 inch wide log COVERED in T. versicolor a few days ago. I can't wait to clone them in the coming months.

I even have a piece that latched onto and begun growing on an old carpet outside.

Quote:

Polysaccharide-K (Krestin, PSK), is a protein-bound polysaccharide isolated from Trametes versicolor, which is used as an immune system boosting agent in the treatment of cancer in some countries in Europe as well as China and Japan. In Japan, PSK is approved as an adjuvant for cancer therapy[1] and is covered by government health insurance.
